SINGLE REVIEW: The Modalities - Already Gone

Manchester's The Modalities share sensational new single 'Already Gone'. Think Oasis grit mixed with Cat Steven's tenderness, and you're close to describing the incredible sound of The Modalities.

'Already Gone' is stunning. A beautiful summery indie pop song. Captivatingly melodic and wonderfully warming. The words are delivered with honesty and integrity. I felt I could connect with the band on a profoundly personal level, like a friend opening up about their fears and dreams.

It's a magical soundscape of raw, heartfelt emotion and comforting vocals. It perfectly conveys the magic of new love, the excitement of expectation, and the wonderment of looking into the future and imagining what might become. While adding an element of realism, although they could be the one, as the song's finale shows, it could also be over before it's begun. Ending on a crash down to earth that all the expectation has been for nothing. The heartbreaking goodbye followed by justification and excuses.

The simple, soft, twinkling guitars blossom throughout, bringing the words to life and adding a real daydream element to the track. Contradicting the song's bleak finale with its glowing upbeat nature.

'Already Gone' is a charming, uplifting sound channelling relatable feelings of rejection in a tender, honest way.

It is a perfect, relaxed summer anthem. Uplifting while also somewhat sad and reflective. It has mesmerising energy and an inviting, bright tone.
