SINGLE REVIEW: The Here and Now - Running
My first reaction to London based The Here and Now's new single 'Running' was "WOW! What a voice!" and I guarantee that will be yours too.
The power in singer Cherry's voice is phenomenal, melodic, bluesy, soulful, and passionate. It's a real stop you in your tracks sound that forces you to take notice.
Taking overall influence from 90s alt-rock, there is an undertone of DIY, frantic punk tempos, groove-driven hooks, and dissonant blues harmonies.
The lyrics convey the feeling of a generation let down by the system. Disillusion at those in power who are meant to fight for the good of the people. Running from one government failing to another. It channels vexation at a crumbling society and feelings of failure and distrust.
'Running' has an infectious, catchy funk-ish groove driving throughout. Big riffs, a dirty, blues-infused bassline, and an energetic drumbeat. It's gritty, rhythmic, and impacting. A powerhouse of a tune, it deserves to be heard by the masses and played at full volume!
‘Running’ is taken from the the bands debut EP, “Dreams of Grandeur” which is out now
