SINGLE REVIEW: Strange Dimensions - Acting Too Soon On It
Sometimes there's a song that sparkles out of your speakers and just screams hit within the first few seconds, it beams with the formula of the perfect song. For me Scotland's Strange Dimensions latest single 'Acting Too Soon On it' did just that.
Coming in on an intro that sounds uncannily like Coldplay's 'Clocks' it soon moves into the glittering synth laden sound of early 90's indie with likenesses to the sublime, but criminally underrated Railway Children. The guitars glisten throughout as the gentle, up-tempo melody is topped with stunning, slightly ethereal vocals that occasionally build into something more bold.
The band explain 'Acting Too Soon On It' was born during lockdown, constructed from simple chord progression and late night lyrics. It then further evolved via phone calls to become the epic, fan favourite it is now.
The lyrics appear to be questioning feelings knowing your own sincerity but doubting the other persons, wanting to act on your emotions but being unsure. The words echo the line "that's if in the end you even still care". It seems to detail a relationship that was once okay but now everything is grey. The knowledge that you feel safe with the other person but only feel darkness and uncertainty from them.
'Acting Too Soon On It' is a captivating, emotional, retro sounding slice of perfect indie. The synths are soft and the guitars rhythmic. The vocals are incredible and the overall package is the kind of song that stops you in your tracks demanding you give it your full attention. Excellent stuff, my single of the week.
