SINGLE REVIEW: Get Over It - Fake My Chance

The debut single from Get Over It 'Fake My Chance' is an interesting listen!

I've been able to find almost nothing out about Get Over It other than it appears to be a solo project from Yaroslav Yanechek.

'Fake My Chance' musically is a fast paced pop punk track. It's melodic with killer guitars and a catchy hook. The vocals are the interesting part, Yaroslav voice is quite arty, a little off key, a little spoken and doesn't always fit with the music. Certainly not what you'd expect within pop punk and its harmonised tones. I think it works, sorta and it certainly makes the song stand out.

Lyrically I found it quite difficult to really capture the notion of the track, it appears to be detailing confusion within love. Questioning whether to take your chances or give up. I particularly liked the line "what's the point in falling in love when you can fall back to sleep".

Ending on a tender moment of twinkling keys and lo-fi drums 'Fake My Chances' is an intriguing listen throughout.

'Fake My Chance' is catchy and fun. Yaroslav is clearly a very good guitar player but I'm a little picky with pop punk and overall the full package is quite my cup of tea. There's definitely potential. I think it would be better if Yaroslav capitalised on developing music around his unique vocal style rather than trying to fit it against a face-paced backdrop.
