SINGLE REVIEW: exxo - HISTORY

exxo are a mysterious lot, emailing in with minimal detail about last single 'HISTORY' and providing no hints as to their own history or roots on their social media pages. I'm going into this review blind which I actually quite like.

'HISTORY' starts on an industrial vibe with darkened guitars and an air of wonderment and interest before bringing in understated but captivating vocals. The track is haunting with somewhat ethereal tendencies boasting the fuzzy distortion of Shoegaze while also taking influence from the exhilarating nature of metalcore. The grand, epic chorus features melodic pop undertones.

There's sections of groovy bass whilst the overall standpoint is chaotic guitars doing battle as the bold drums crash beneath. The haunting vox mellows and builds but never waivers from the beautiful, yet raw tone.

There's an electronic skit before blasting back into full power. 'HISTORY' is like a burst of the 90's with a modern twist.

The lyrics capture the notion of drifting apart from someone. The moment you realise you need to change and show them a side they never thought they'd see. The idea of moving on after the feelings have faded away.

'HISTORY' is an enthralling listen crossing over into many genres to present a track that's mysterious and intriguing while also confident, impactful and infectious.
