SINGLE REVIEW: Arctic Lights - Holy Joe

Arctic Lights are back with their first single of 2023 'Holy Joe' and despite its short 2 and a half minute statue it's a lot!

The band, while retaining their modest, sinister vocal style have moved away from the more structured trudge of previous single 'Belong' opting for a noise that's entirely more disjointed and chaotic.

'Holy Joe' starts with the broken guitar sounds of Menswe@r's 'Daydreamer' transitioning into a blast of whispered electronica before adding an Outkast 'Hey Ya' esque skit. 'Holy Joe' can only be described as experimental with bedlam and unexpected noise throughout. It crashes through distortion, pounding drums, whining riffs and fuzzy vocals with gothic tendencies. There's heavy bass and gripping intrigue. I spent the whole track with baited breath wondering what was coming next.

Combining grunge, shoegaze, alt rock and electronica 'Holy Joe' is a rollercoaster ride through music, mixing sounds and styles to produce a no rules commotion that's truly unique to Arctic Lights.

As the cover art suggests, ‘Holy Joe’ will most probably blow your mind!

Amy

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
