SINGLE REVIEW: Night House + SOPHIE REID - Seatbelt
'Seatbelt' sees Brighton born SOPHIE REID, an artist working in film, theatre, music and visual arts team up with producer and songwriter Night House (aka Nick Williams).
The track is beautifully dreamy combining electronica with orchestral sounds overlaid with REID’s whimsical but entrancing vocals. The synths glisten and twinkle while REID's voice is both dramatic and ethereal. There's captivating harmonies and total sincerity. The vocals comparare to Sinead o’ Connor or Kate Bush while the slightly hip-hop-ish skit bears similarities to the hugely underrated Sarah Nixey of Black Box Recorder.
'Seatbelt' fully engulfs you with its mesmerising sounds. Bold, theatrical drums, enchanting keys and stunning strings build and mellow throughout into an outcry of frustration and hurt. There's a nice groove adding extra dimension to the overall package.
The lyrics detail the exasperation at a situation, speaking but not being heard. Being accused of changing and growing cold but knowing it's only due to someone's inability to listen and act on what you're saying. The knowledge you should let go of this person but knowing you're still hung up on them.
'Seatbelt' is beautifully arranged and performed with pure class.
