Life harbors its shadowy sides. Often unnoticed by society, which maintains its facade, there are people trapped in a nightmare of self-doubt, depression, and hopelessness. Escaping this situation seems dauntingly difficult. The battle these individuals face often remains hidden from those around them. 'Captured By Emptiness', the upcoming single from the Austrian Thrash Metal / Groove metal band Uzziel, tells the story of such a struggle. It is set to be released on February 9th through NRT-Records in an audiovisual format, marking a significant reset for Uzziel.
The year 2023 was eventful for the metal band Uzziel. While they tirelessly worked on reworking their back catalog in the studio and giving it a new mix, they captivated audiences at several live events. In April, Uzziel performed at Debauchery's Blutfest in Vienna, and in the summer of the same year, they could be seen at the Area 53 Festival in Leoben. In August, they even participated in the Kaltenbach Open-Air Festival before returning to the studio to continue their work, the first result of which will now be presented to the public on February 9, 2024, with the re-release of their single "Captured By Emptiness" in both audio and visual form.
The history of the metal band Uzziel is closely linked to Micheldorf near by Wels in Upper Austria. In 2010, frontman Mexx Uzziel and guitarist Jürgen "Hati" Hartwagner decided to embark on a new chapter in the world of thrash metal. Their musical journey, which started somewhat hesitantly but gained determination over time, led to a series of demo albums and notable festival performances. Among these were concerts at the renowned Kaltenbach Open-Air and the Austrian Hellfest, which helped the band gain recognition within the national metal scene.
With their first demo, "Broken," which was released in 2011, Uzziel already demonstrated their musical strength and versatility. The name Uzzuiel, which means "God is my strength" in Hebrew, not only symbolizes the musical power of the band but also connects to the biblical figure Uzziel, Moses' uncle, who, according to the Bible and the Torah, was tasked by God with liberating the Jewish people from Egyptian slavery.
With their 2015 album 'Torn Apart,' Uzziel managed to secure a solid place in the German-speaking metal scene. The album stands out for its fascinating fusion of dark thrash metal and groove metal with nu-metal elements, making their sound unique and unmistakable. Uzziel has proven that they are more than just another metal band; they are always striving to push the boundaries of the genre and provide the perfect sonic experience for fans of acts like Pro-Pain, Enemy Inside, or even Brimstone.
In 2019, Uzziel released their second full-length album, 'This Fear,' in collaboration with SAOL. Songs like 'This Fear' and performances alongside acts like Sepultura in Wels, Debauchery, or Eisregen at the Winter Metal Storm Festival were well- received by the metal scene and garnered Uzziel even more significant attention beyond their national borders.
The powerful blend of thrash, groove, and nu-metal caught the attention of the German independent label NRT-Records, with whom Uzziel signed a long-term record deal in 2022. Subsequently, Uzziel performed at the Area 53 Festival and decided on a fresh start, during which their original albums will be removed from the shops and re-released with a new sound and mix through NRT-Records in the coming years.
Guitarist Jürgen Hartwagner had left the band in the meantime. Without him, Uzziel performed again at the Kaltenbach Open-Air Festival on August 17, 2023, followed by more concerts featuring Uzziel. They played a concert at the 10th Anniversary Festival of the Metal Outbreak series on October 15, 2023, and were invited to participate in the anniversary show of Debauchery in Vienna.
The year 2024 marks a significant reset for Uzziel. With the re-release of 'Captured By Emptiness,' the Upper Austrians make their label debut on NRT-Records and also release a remastered version of the original video from 2011, personally remastered by NRT-Records founder Philipp Gottfried. This release, scheduled for February 9, 2024, presents Uzziel in a new light and offers a mature blend of thrash metal, dark metal, groove metal, and nu-metal. It represents the first step in the new direction that will culminate in the release of the remastered back catalog and the upcoming third album.

Das Leben birgt seine Schattenseiten. Oft unbemerkt von der Gesellschaft, welche die Fassade aufrechterhält, gibt es Menschen, die in einem Albtraum aus Selbstzweifeln, Depressionen und Hoffnungslosigkeit gefangen sind. Ein Ausbruch aus dieser Situation erscheint nur schwer möglich. Der Kampf, den diese Personen führen, bleibt ihren Mitmenschen meist verborgen. Von einen solchen Kampf erzählt 'Captured By Emptiness', die kommende Single der österreichischen Metalformation Uzziel, welche am 9. Februar über NRT-Records in audiovisueller Form erscheinen wird und den großen Neustart für Uzziel einläuten wird.
Das Jahr 2023 war ereignisreich für die österreichische Metalband Uzziel. Während sie unermüdlich damit beschäftigt waren, ihren Backkatalog im Studio aufzuarbeiten und mit einem neuen Mix zu versehen, zogen sie auf einigen Liveevents das Publikum in ihren Bann. Im April spielten Uzziel auf dem Blutfest von Debauchery in Wien, waren im Sommer desselben Jahres beim Area 53 Festival in Leoben zu sehen und nahmen im August gleich noch am Kaltenbach Open-Air Festival teil, ehe sie die Arbeit im Studio fortsetzten, deren erstes Ergebnis nun am 9. Februar 2024 mit der Neuauflage ihrer Single "Captured By Emptiness" in Ton- und Bildform der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert wird.
Die Entstehungsgeschichte der Metal-Band Uzziel ist eng mit dem oberösterreichischen Micheldorf bei Wels verknüpft. Dort beschlossen im Jahr 2010 der Frontmann Mexx Uzziel und Gitarrist Jürgen „Hati“ Hartwagner, ein neues Kapitel in der Welt des Thrash Metal aufzuschlagen. Ihr musikalischer Aufstieg, der zunächst zögerlich begann und dann an Entschlossenheit gewann, mündete in einer Reihe von Demoalben und bemerkenswerten Festivalauftritten. Darunter waren Konzerte beim renommierten Kaltenbach Open-Air und beim österreichischen Hellfest, welche die Band in der Szene bekannt machten.
Schon mit ihrem ersten Demo „Broken“, das 2011 erschien, demonstrierten sie ihre musikalische Stärke und Vielseitigkeit. Der Name Uzziel, der im Hebräischen „Gott ist meine Stärke“ bedeutet, ist nicht nur ein Symbol für die musikalische Kraft der Band, sondern steht auch in Verbindung mit der biblischen Figur Uzziel, dem Onkel von Moses, der laut Bibel und der Tora von Gott beauftragt wurde, das jüdische Volk aus der ägyptischen Sklaverei zu befreien.
Mit ihrem 2015 veröffentlichten Album 'Torn Apart' gelang es Uzziel, sich einen festen Platz in der deutschsprachigen Metalszene zu sichern. Das Album zeichnet sich durch eine faszinierende Fusion aus düsterem Thrash Metal und Groove Metal mit Nu-Metal-Elementen aus, was ihren Sound einzigartig und unverwechselbar macht. Uzziel haben damit bewiesen, dass sie mehr als nur eine weitere Metal-Band sind; sie sind stets darum bemüht, die Grenzen des Genres zu erweitern und liefern das perfekte akustische Futter für Fans von Acts wie Pro-Pain, Enemy Inside oder auch Brimstone.
Im Jahr 2019 veröffentlichten Uzziel ihr zweites Langspielwerk 'This Fear' in Zusammenarbeit mit SAOL. Die Songs 'This Fear' oder auch Konzerte mit Acts wie Sepultura in Wels, Debauchery oder Eisregen auf dem Winter Metal Storm wurden von der Metalszene wohlwollend aufgenommen und brachten Uzziel weitere größere Aufmerksamkeit über ihre Landesgrenzen hinaus ein.
Aufmerksam auf den kraftvollen Mix aus Thrash-, Groove- und Nu-Metal wurde auch das deutsche Independentlabel NRT-Records, mit dem Uzziel im Jahr 2022 einen langfristigen Plattenvertrag unterzeichneten. Uzziel spielten in Folge beim Area 53 Festival und beschlossen einen Neuanfang, im Rahmen dessen die originalen Alben aus den Shops entfernt werden und mit einem neuen Sound und Mix über NRT-Records in den folgenden Jahren neu aufgelegt werden.
Jürgen Hartwagner hat die Band zwischenzeitlich verlassen. Ohne ihn spielten Uzziel am 17. August 2023 erneut auf dem Kaltenbach Open-Air Festival, worauf weitere Konzerte von und mit Uzziel folgten. So waren sie auf dem 10. Anniversary Festival der Metal Outbreak-Reihe zu sehen und wurden am 15. Oktober 2023 dazu eingeladen, die Jubiläumsshow von Debauchery in Wien mitzugestalten.
Das Jahr 2024 markiert den großen Reset für Uzziel. Mit der Neuveröffentlichung von 'Captured By Emptiness' geben die Oberösterreicher das Labeldebüt auf NRT-Records und veröffentlichen zudem eine remasterte Version des Originalvideos aus dem Jahr 2011, für deren Überarbeitung sich NRT-Records-Gründer Philipp Gottfried persönlich verantwortlich zeigt. Diese Veröffentlichung, welche für den 9. Februar 2024 vorgesehen ist, lässt Uzziel in neuem Licht erstrahlen und bietet eine gestandene Mischung aus Thrash Metal, Dark Metal, Groove Metal-, aber auch Nu Metal, welche der erste Schritt in die neue Richtung darstellt, welche in der Veröffentlichung des remasterten Backkatalogs, sowie des kommenden-, dritten Albums gipfeln wird.
