FROM THE NEW ALBUM ‘EXORCISM OF YOUTH’ WHICH FOLLOWS ON AUGUST 11TH
If you’re going to make a comeback, best go for broke. That’s exactly what The View have done and it’s paying off in style. Last year saw them sell 10,000 tickets in advance in Glasgow alone, before stepping on stage to be greeted with a roar of approval. They then raised the bar at the start of 2023 as ‘Feels Like’, their first new music in eight years, received its first play from Jo Whiley at Radio 2. News of the Aug 11th release of their long-awaited new album ‘Exorcism of Youth’ resulted in coverage across NME, Radio X and the Daily Record, while underplay shows in Manchester and London immediately sold-out.
The chart-topping, Platinum-certified band now keep their momentum at fever pitch by sharing their brand new single ‘Neon Lights’. Demonstrating that The View are back on fiery top form, ‘Neon Lights’ infuses the band’s flair for instant indie anthems with swaggering confidence and a moody elegance. Kyle Falconer’s lyrics paint an evocative picture of a city after nightfall - the neon nightlife lights representing a heady mix of hedonism and escapism, as well as the darker undercurrent that accompanies it.
Bassist Kieran Webster says, “‘Neon Lights’ intends to hold a mirror up to today’s ultra capitalist society, and the institutions who keep this unfair system in place for their own benefit.”
As with the rest of the upcoming ‘Exorcism of Youth’ album, ‘Neon Lights’ was written by The View and recorded in Granada, Spain, with the Grammy Award winning producer Youth (The Verve, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Charlatans).
Weaving fresh sonic elements into their rock ‘n’ roll soul, ‘Exorcism of Youth’ is a very natural next step for The View. Completed by guitarist Pete Reilly, they’re still burning with the passion of youth, but now with the confidence and control that comes from having been around the block and learned from the experience.
‘Exorcism of Youth’ is available to pre-order HERE. Album formats include a limited edition signed white vinyl, a limited run of 50 test pressings, and an exclusive bonus four-track CD.
In 2007, The View’s debut album ‘Hats Off To Buskers’ went straight to #1 and soon reached Platinum status. Further buoyed by critical acclaim including a Mercury Prize nomination and NME making glowing comparisons with The Stooges and The Libertines, ‘Hats Off To Buskers’ also took The View into the singles charts with the #3 smash and instant indie classic ‘Same Jeans’ plus the Top 20 hits ‘Wasted Little DJs’ and ‘Superstar Tradesman’. Two of their subsequent four albums - ‘Which Bitch?’ and ‘Cheeky For A Reason’ - also reached the Top 10, while their previous album, ‘Ropewalk’, was produced by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.
When The View reconvened after five years apart, the three old-friends realised just how much they have missed… well, everything about being in a band: the rush of seeing an audience react to their performances, the camaraderie of being together, a simple jam idea evolving into a fully-fledged song. After all that, how could you resist wanting more?
Next month’s sold-out shows in Manchester and London represent The View’s first shows in both cities in several years. Their summer festival schedule is also taking shape with a headline set at The Mighty Boof, a homecoming show at TRNSMT, a London gig as special guests to Kaiser Chiefs, and Victorious already confirmed.
