Suffolk Singer-Songwriter Grace Calver shares new single 'Social Media Generation'

Grace Calver kicks off her new track 'Social Media Generation' with the bold line, “I see you scrolling, and yeah I’m hating,” setting the tone for this sassy, tongue-in-cheek anthem. Released on 4th October 2024, the song captures Grace’s frustrations with the constant phone obsession of those around her—especially when they never seem to post about her!

While the song is playful and self-aware, Grace admits it's as much about poking fun at herself and her own social media habits as it is about the actions of people she’s dated. She admits it irks her when they post selfies at the pub or share football updates but never share any of the fun moments they have together. Surely, she's not the only one who feels this way?

With a touch of drama, Grace belts out, “We’re all looking for some validation,” and captures the reality of wanting to be featured in a partner’s posts. By the second verse, she acknowledges that social media isn’t everything—as long as they’re enjoying life together, it shouldn’t matter. However, the bridge cheekily offers suggestions like “couples posts, days out, and date nights” just in case her partner needs some public display inspiration.

In a playful nod to the mysterious algorithms that influence social media, Grace explores how, no matter how much she rationalises that she doesn’t need the tags or mentions, she can’t quite escape their allure.

Grace has already performed 'Social Media Generation' live a few times, and the song had audiences singing along by the final chorus—a sure sign that its catchy, relatable vibe will resonate widely.

For this track, Grace stepped into the producer role herself, while Jake Day at North Acre Studio handled the engineering, mixing, and mastering. Influenced by pop-punk acts like Baby Queen, Lauran Hibberd, Weezer, and Beth McCarthy, Grace brings some of that energy into the track, with her personal favourite moment being the conversational spoken-word bridge before the final chorus.

A 20-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Suffolk/Essex border, Grace is known for her witty indie pop-rock songs. BBC Introducing in Suffolk named her ‘One to Watch’ in 2023, and on Friday 13th September 2024, she won the Breakthrough Artist award at the NMG Awards. Grace has already supported artists like The Lottery Winners, Alfie Templeman, and King No-One, and she continues to make waves in the UK music scene with her infectious energy and undeniable charm.
