Album Launch Show 16th November @ Green Door Store, Brighton

Brighton-based multi-disciplinary music company Small Pond are delighted to announce the latest instalment in the series of their Small Pond Presents: Emerging compilation albums, with Emerging Vol. 4 set for release on 15th November 2024 on a limited vinyl pressing and all good digital service providers.

Building on the success of previous projects, Small Pond’s ‘Emerging’ artist development project once again gives 16 talented young acts (aged 16-25) from Brighton and the South of England the opportunity to rehearse, record, and release their music via Small Pond’s professional studio, label and PR set-up.

Several of the acts featured on previous compilations are now hotly tipped for future success including CLT DRP, Lambrini Girls, El Moono, Bridie Florence, Currls, City Dog and more.

This year’s cohort includes tracks from Jar of Blind Flies, Modessa, Bones Ate Arfa, Could Be Ghosts, Epsom Salts, FUZZTAZER, Kalopsia, Room 3, Slimy Bench, Bacci Pouch, The Wrong Trousers, Jeff Ubetcha, Austin Showers, Crimson, Jack Smith and Sonic Crush.

“It’s been a great experience to be able to organise the 4th edition of Small Pond Emerging,” says head of Small Pond funded projects Alex Amos. “We had an amazing amount of artists applying to be on the record and narrowed it down to a select few that we feel showcase the diversity of music being made by young bands in Brighton. We feel really fortunate to have been given the opportunity to do this again and we really hope we can support the artists involved in the project to see some success.”

To celebrate the news, Brighton post-hardcore quintet, could be ghosts, are leading the charge with their new single ‘sutures’ set for release on 20th September 2024.

Commenting on the track, the band say: “'sutures.' is an ambitious blend of our core influences, combining elements of hardcore, emo, and metalcore with new sonic palettes unlike anything we’ve previously released. It's a winding, cold and tense track with lyrical themes centred on self-inflicted vicious cycles.”

Formed in 2023, in a very short space of time fresh-faced newcomers could be ghosts’ striking presence and visual aesthetic have helped to establish them as a potent and chaotic live act in the bustling and competitive Brighton music space.

Drawing their influences from emo, hardcore, and metalcore-adjacent sounds, they weave together an abrasive but hooky mix of soaring guitars and melodies, thunderous bass tones, thrilling percussion and brutal screams.

Following a recent Trans Pride fundraiser in Brighton, the band will appear at the Emerging Vol. 4 album launch party at Green Door Store, Brighton on 16th November 2024.

More about Small Pond and the Emerging project:
A young, multi-disciplinary music company run by a team of musicians, audio engineers, and industry professionals, Small Pond is centred around a thriving rehearsal and recording studio complex in the centre of Brighton.

Over the last few years the Small Pond imprint has boasted releases from more than fifteen acts in varying genres, gaining high profile support from a wide spread of media including The Guardian, BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1 and beyond. The label’s roster, past and present, includes The Physics House Band, Natalie Evans, Inwards, Wild Cat Strike, Town Portal, Yama Warashi, Alarmist, Brian Campeau, Bonniesongs, InTechnicolour, and Luo.

The Emerging project, which has been awarded funding from Arts Council England, focuses on giving promising artists the opportunity to experience all stages in the production and promotion of a record. The process culminates in the pressing and distribution of a compilation album on 12-inch vinyl and digital platforms, and features a track from each of the acts selected.

Along with a marketing and PR campaign for the release, musicians will receive support and industry guidance in the form of workshops, pre-production meetings and mentoring throughout the process. Each act will also receive an allocation of the finished vinyl to sell as merchandise, getting them on the way to earning a tangible income from their music.

The Emerging project was launched in 2020 with the resulting 8 track compilation Small Pond Presents: Emerging featuring singles from MY-HI, CLT DRP, PLACID, El Moono, KING BEE, San Dingo, BADLAWS, and The Subtracks, with CLT DRP going on to sign a full album deal with Small Pond for the release of their debut full-length record Without The Eyes.

Volume 2 was released in 2021 and featured tracks from Lambrini Girls, Bridie Florence, Maya Caskie, Harper, every rose, Dirty, Big Bad, and Masquerader.

Volume 3 was released in 2023 and featured 16 new artists including prom., City Dog, Currls, MAXWELLTHEBAND, Leibniz, Ahsoka, Electric Cowboy Club, Gurf, How Long You Been Driving, atticOmatic, Peach Season, MacEvoy, Psychic and Wellbeing Event, Markus Kan, ALY and Rainy Day Café.
