Slung unleash live session version of latest single ‘Fire to Burn’
Tour dates in the UK & EU on the horizon
“Heavy & hypnotising” - Kerrang!
“a track that plays with classic metal motifs in a refreshing, contemporary way that'll surely please fans of the likes of Puppy, Mastodon or Red Fang.” - Metal Hammer
Slung’s recent single ‘Fire to Burn’ has a whole new life breathed into it today as the band have unleashed a live session version filmed at The Bookhouse Studio in London. Vocalist Katie Oldham’s commanding delivery epicly carries the intense story within the music, which conjures shades of Red Fang, Baroness and Mastodon. ‘Fire to Burn’ was included in both Metal Hammer’s tracks of the week and the Kerrang! Chart upon release.
The witchcraft within the track’s essence is undeniable as Oldham explains: “Throughout the whole process of writing this track there seemed to be this kind of mystical guiding force nudging it away from being anything other than what we ended up with. When the final vocal melody mainlined into my brain from this mysterious otherworldly donor, I instantly knew the lyrics needed to be about witchcraft.
Our bassist Vlad had recently learned a tale about an ancestor of his who was regarded as a ‘superwitch’ in her village and the townsfolk would go to her for healing with herbs and medicines. That was until fear and hatred gripped the people and they eventually turned against her, forming a mob to drive her from her home and execute her.”
The ‘Fire to Burn’ session track follows Slung’s live session video of debut single ‘Neurotic’, filmed at Small Pond Studios. The music video for ‘Neurotic’ also racked up an impressive 10,000 views in a mere month with Oldham baring her soul, really tapping into the fear of not having control over your life or the things around you. As she says, that track is about “imposter syndrome, fear of letting people down, fear of failure, losing control, literal disempowerment...”
See Slung live on stage in the UK and the EU and experience a force to be reckoned with in the flesh on various dates over the rest of 2024, with more shows to be added soon. Details below.
Slung’s debut duo of singles were recorded at Small Pond Studio in Brighton by Sam Allan, mixed by Mark Roberts (Black Peaks, Vower, Delta Sleep, Jamie Lenman) and mastered by Tim Rawkins (Reef, All Saints, Orchards). The four members of Slung currently find themselves flung across Europe but Brighton is their spiritual home. A tight-knit crew of the formerly gifted and talented, Slung deliver blistering riffs, sinister drums and sugary sweet vocals, all wrapped up in a tasty tortellini of 90's slacker rock nostalgia. The group, featuring former members of Sit Down, The Death of Us & Intechnicolour, formed in 2023 with the ambition of finally finishing demos that had existed for years. On first rehearsal, the chemistry was instant and Slung stormed through the writing and recording of their upcoming debut album, which is expected for release in 2025.
