SINGLE REVIEWS: Claudia Balla - Running

Swiss songstress Claudia Balla returns with the fifth single to be lifted from her third album "ALICE".

'Running' is introduced with sombre strings conveying the notion of emotional torment and loneliness presented in Claudia words. It builds with a full, yet dreamy sound as the strings change in tone to a more plodding, pensive stance with moments of grandeur.

Claudia's vocals are stunning and delicate with a mesmerising tone and impressive range. Melodic and harmonised 'Running' is a pouring of pain and confusion. The desire to leave a situation but being unsure of the way out.

The lyrics detail a bad relationship where on one hand Claudia acknowledges that the other person is no good because everything's about them and they don't understand her. Confessing they could build a castle but there's nothing to defend, the acceptance of the relationship is in ruins. Yet on the other hand knowing that she's still lost in their wonderland. It's a thought provoking tale of how easy it is to be caught up in someone however much you know you shouldn't be.

Claudia mixes elements of pop drawing likenesses to Adele in the way she presents so much raw emotion in her words but also combining the confidence of more rocky musicians such as Echobelly's Sonya Madan. In fact 'Running' could easily draw similarities to the latter's 'Dark Therapy' with its macabre stance.

'Running' is a beautiful, well written, flawlessly performed track. Claudia is definitely one to watch.
