SINGLE REVIEW: ZUDZ - Yellow Chariot
Inspired by paramedics and ambulance workers, Newcastle's newly formed band of seasoned pros ZUDZ blasts on their blink and you'll miss it, 2 minutes of carnage debut single 'Yellow Chariot'
Noisy and raucous 'Yellow Chariot' is a shot of fuzzed-up distortion, and brash yet bluesy, groove-inspired vocals. Heavy and psychedelic with whining riffs, thrashing drums, and filthy bass.
Musically artful and somewhat disturbing, a grimacing sound that combines grunge with rock, blues, and elements of shoegaze. The music has a tendency to overpower the vocals at times which I think is what the band were going for however, being a lyrics kinda gal, I would have preferred more clarity.
On 'Yellow Chariot' singer Kit explains "inspired by all the ambulance workers and paramedics who might have to cross the river Styx regularly, also of the risks and joys of life itself"
Overall a promising debut that's going to appeal to metal and rock fans alike. There are likenesses to bands such as And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead coupled with the bluesy-ness of Creedence Clearwater Revival. While maybe not entirely for me 'Yellow Chariot' is an interesting listen and I'm keen to see what's next for the band.
