SINGLE REVIEW: Wonderland - I Ask You

The latest single 'I Ask You' from the UK-based Wonderland might just be the most catchy tune I've heard this year!

A stunning dose of 80's inspired power pop that Freddie Mercury would be proud of 'I Ask You' is sparkling fireball anthemic indie disco grooves, magnificent keys, and sensational piano breaks. The more mid-tempo verse mounts into the immersive bridge before erupting into the powerful, addictive chorus.

The track creeps in on a sinister tone before taking its fuller, arena-filling form. Infectious hooks, exciting guitars, and a fresh but retro feel at every turn. 'I Ask You' is a treasure, Wonderland bridges the gap between old and new perfectly.

While the track's tone is generally up-tempo the lyrics take a macabre look at the state of society. Money obsessed, full of corruption and destruction. The yearning to change the world but only feeling yourself getting dragged down and caught up in the lifestyle of meaningless desires, always wanting more than we have. The lines "it doesn't matter cause no one pays attention" and "there's no greed if we care" feel particularly impactful, the notion we should listen more and want less to build a more harmonious, empathic world.

Wonderland are a class act. Anthemic with hard-hitting songwriting, and a sound versatile enough to appeal to almost anyone. I'm stoked that 'I Ask You' appeared on my desk and will be sharing far and wide!
