SINGLE REVIEW: Kempsey’s Weekly Round-Up 04/11/24 - 10/11/24
God’s Gift - Ain’t Going Back
Inspired by hard rockers like AC/DC and Aerosmith, God’s Gift, are on their own path to greatness creating kick-ass rock and roll timeless classics with a modern touch. Ain’t Going Back enters with a gripping guitar lead followed by valiant rhythm guitar and potent basslines. The drums are solid and driving throughout to get your toes tapping and your head bopping away. The inviolable vocals hold rasp and are the forefront of the track. Those soulful bluesy solos are what pull you in and make you stay! It’s quite an addictive song about the taxing work life and not going back to what makes you miserable. It makes the individual feel they are worth something greater!
Dvrk Romantics - It’s not my problem (Wild one)
Dvrk Romantics are described as ‘Smokey glam, poppy-indie, rocky bunch of misfits’. Opening with scattered percussion and rushing synths and chaotic feedback guitars. The song is seductive and sassy and builds tension through tempo and dynamics so the full force of the chorus shines bright. The vocals are impressive and with the use of effects really creates space and an other worldly feel. I can really get on board and be absorbed by their chaos.
Waking Stone - Ascension Road
Washington DC American Rock band inspired by the Golden era of classic rock aim to keep the genre alive with a modern twist.
Oooh! What a solid tight groove to Ascension Road! This is probably the fastest I have been hooked by a track and the rest falls into place. I’m once again absolutely floored by the technical skills of each instrument of Waking Stone and those vocals are iconic! A classic rock track with a splash of blues to put it simply however, not to be underestimated. This track feels big, full of attitude and wonderful poetry. The kind of track you need on a long winding road. It is indeed a timeless track.
