SINGLE REVIEW: Subway Rat - Tell Me What To Do

Infusing almost every genre imaginable, Subway Rat pushes boundaries and challenges everything you thought you knew about music on their new single 'Tell Me What To Do'.

With fuzzy elements of grunge and shoegaze, it combines punk, rock, and psychedelia with some hints of contemporary hip-hop. There are lo-fi garage rock vibes and experimental vocals styles. In short, 'Tell Me What To Do' is a bit of everything, a deconstructed montage of sounds and quirks.

It's lyrically much more simplistic and musically much more experimental than I usually like, but it just works. I like all the DIY dynamics and changes in tempo; it really reminds me of The Streets. It's a fun listening experience.

Crisp guitars pair with uptempo drums and a driving bassline. The melodies pay homage to hip-hop rhythms, and the vocals are the perfect amount of indie-infused pretentiousness.

Insanely catchy, Subway Rat is a bit different, a bit interesting. Not my usual listening preference but 'Tell Me What To Do' has me hooked!

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
