SINGLE REVIEW: Seth Hilary Jackson - Anti-Social Media
Seth Hilary Jackson's 'Anti-Social Media' is a biting commentary on the frustrations many of us feel towards certain online and TV platforms. The song's tone perfectly encapsulates the disdain for the way social media has evolved—once a tool for connection, now a space dominated by people spewing all kinds of shite, from footballers and politicians to so-called influencers dancing around for attention. Seth's calling out of keyboard warriors—those gobshites who hide behind screens, suddenly full of opinions they'd never express face-to-face—really hit home.
I had to laugh at Seth's blurb, where he made a point to warn about swearing. Expecting something extreme, I was amused when the phrase "down the shitter" was the peak of profanity—especially in a world where bands drop F-bombs like confetti. Seth’s restraint on that front didn't detract from the song's punch, though.
Musically, 'Anti-Social Media' is an arty, attitude-driven track that perfectly captures the DIY indie ethos while incorporating grander alt-rock moments with dreamy undertones. Seth’s vocals are beautifully articulate, the guitars are spikey and impactful, and the drums are bright yet laid-back. It's a great tune, and one I can really relate to.
