SINGLE REVIEW: Red Output - Varnish

‘Varnish' opens with a beautifully introspective sound, its fragility and delicate soundscape immediately drawing you in. The eruptions within the track feel like mini storms in the calm, leading to a build-up into dramatic vocals that resonate deeply. The blend of dream pop with pulsating punk and roll, sprinkled with experimental elements, is masterfully done. The added jazzy quirks and spoken interlude add extra layers of intrigue, making it an excellent and very creative tune.

An eruption of sonic feeling, 'Varnish' explores a desperate hope to hold on to love in a world where coherent love feels impossible. Red Output, a rock band based in Kitchener, honed this track over months of live performances across Southern Ontario. Their punchy return to streaming platforms began with 'Rafters' back in late January, a groovy and fun track that has already accumulated over 20,000 Spotify streams.

'Varnish' showcases a range of moods: tight and punchy grooves, joyful rock celebrations, and dark, noisy explosions. It's a track that's both fun and emotional, paired with promotion that explores themes of authenticity, falsity, and creation through its use of AI and real art. With this new single and a stacked lineup of Ontario show dates, Red Output is set for a promising year ahead.

Amy

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
