SINGLE REVIEW: Kaald - Short Breath

UK Doomers Kaald share latest single 'Short Breath'.

Providing a more accessible take on doom (don't expect a 20-minute song with a drawn-out bass strum every so often) 'Short Breath' presents dark imagery with a blackened, harrowing, sinking feeling.

Melodic and erupting the track shifts tempos giving Kaald a chance to demonstrate all their musical abilities. Hook heavy with a grimy bassline and pummeling drums there's a captivating underlying groove metal funk running throughout and uneasy elements of shock rock.

The vocals blend hand-hitting raucous bellowings with softer, thoughtful tones that mirror the changing energy of the track.

Hammering and battling 'Short Breath' protests the value of life. In its 4-minute 41 duration (the time it takes the average human to inhale/exhale 70 times) 'Short Breath' questions what else we might do in that time if we knew these were our last moments on earth.

Shifting from quiet to loud 'Short Breath' is an unsettling listen, nervous energies radiate throughout. It's mysterious, impactful, and daunting. Gritty with genuine passion, it's a magnificent deluge of emotion.
