SINGLE REVIEW: gimbal.lock - With You

I really like gimbal.lock's versatility in their sound and their dynamic performance, channelling electrifying energy and rugged grunge grit.

'With You' sees the band take a different direction, opting for a softer, more emotion-driven, atmospheric sound with vibrant aspects of jangle pop that sound uncannily like The Wedding Present while still retaining the raw, gruelling vocals i've become accustomed to. My only discomfort within the track is that it's a worship song, very obviously Christian Rock, praising God and thanking Him for all His guidance. For someone who has religion as part of their life, it's heartwarming, but as a non-believer, when tracks are overtly religious, I find they make me feel uneasy.

The sound is great, really bright and vibrant with a wonderfully chiming and celebratory nature. They combine different tempos, from the slow-burning, thoughtful intro to a joyful indie crescendo, accumulating into a more distorted explosion before mellowing again and ramping back to a jangle fest to finish.

It's a great track, and sound-wise, it's perfect. I’m certainly a big fan of gimbal.lock but unfortunately lyrically, this one didn't sit quite right with me.

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
