SINGLE REVIEW: Das Black Milk - Freedom Pt. 2

Das Black Milk's 'Freedom Pt. 2', from their latest album Bones in a Daydream, serves as a fierce continuation of the themes explored in 'Freedom' from their 2022 EP Heart OK Low Freedom. The band is vocal about their desire for radical societal change, advocating for the abolition of money, traditional jobs, and government structures to achieve true freedom—freedom of thought, freedom from materialism, and liberation from corruption.

The track begins with a distorted guitar wail that acts as a rallying cry, immediately grabbing the listener's attention. This opening gives way to a burst of sound that evokes an almost bagpipe-like resonance, an unusual but striking element that stands out before the music transitions into more distorted, chaotic noise. This leads to a full-throttle punk 'n' roll landscape, with a distinct Oi! punk undertone.

Vocally, the song is brash, abrasive, and urgent, delivering the band's message with raw, in-your-face intensity. The brief 1 minute and 35-second track is packed with energy, charging forward with fuzzy riffs, pulsating drums, and a rebellious spirit. The uncoordinated nature of the music adds to its punk ethos, creating an atmosphere of rowdy, disruptive chaos.

'Freedom Pt. 2' is a short but impactful track, filled with adrenaline and a sense of urgency. Its raw energy and aggressive stance leave a lasting impression, showcasing Das Black Milk's commitment to their ideals and their ability to channel discontent into compelling, thought-provoking music.
