SINGLE REVIEW: Daniel Gunn - Hold Me Back
Scottish Singer-Songwriter Daniel Gunn is an artist with many years experience within the Inverness music scene. Playing a multitude of shows and crafting a catalogue of live favourites that pay homage to the likes of Brian Fallon and Eddie Vedder.
Having perfected his sound and found his identity as an artist, Daniel steps slightly away from his largely acoustic roots to blast onto the music scene with his stunning debut release 'Hold Me Back'.
Starting simple and stripped back Daniel's vocals growl over dainty acoustic guitars occasionally wavering from their path for a burst of unapologetic passion. Daniel's voice is the perfect balance of raw and soulful with the most beautiful, sincere tone.
Changing round a minute in 'Hold Me Back' capitalises on a true Americanca sound with the introduction of a full band. There's a downtrodden, plodding energy that gives the feeling of a journey, erupting for the chorus before lowering again.
Melodic and entrancing 'Hold Me Back' is an emotional, thoughtful listen with layers of intricacy and gripping hooks. While Daniel's music feels quite safe, not really straying from classic rock, it's delivered with such a high level of passion and power it's hard not to find yourself enchanted by the noise pouring from your stereo.
'Hold Me Back' is a bit of an earworm, Daniel's authentic pure vocals are sure to warm your heart, however I have a feeling he has so much more to give. My advice is watch this space because I predict big things for Daniel's future.
