Bristol progressive art-rock quartet SANS FROID are pleased to reveal the haunting video for their new single ‘Gammons’, set for release on 3rd July 2024.
The track is the latest to be taken from their debut album Hello, Boil Brain which will be released on 13th September 2024, with the band set to play a special album release show at Rough Trade Bristol on 12th October 2024.
Commenting on the single, vocalist Aisling Rhiannon says: "Gammons is about being on the receiving end of continuous passive misogyny. It pokes fun at the stereotype of the boozy red-faced Brits who often feel it their place to aggressively share their unsolicited opinions."
Following an appearance at Reverie Fest and recent UK tour dates with fellow noodlers Poly-Math and Bristol proggers ANTA, the band will play a coveted slot at this year’s ArcTanGent Festival, and today announce September 2024 UK co-headline dates with PEACH, as well as October EU headline dates (see below for listings).
Hello, Boil Brain was produced, engineered and mixed by Ben Green at Circadian Studios, Exeter and mastered by Stephen Kerrison at Weird Jungle, with the band revealing the album’s tracklist and artwork today.
"This was our first time working with a producer (Ben Green),” says guitarist Charlie Barnes of the album sessions. “We went into the process thinking we would get everything done very quickly but Ben had a vision and really pushed us all way further than we thought we could go. I still have nightmares of finishing a great take, only for Ben to tell us to do it again, but can’t imagine recording with anyone else."
Prior to their current incarnation cemented in 2024, Aisling Rhiannon (vocals/keys) and Toby Green (drums/vocals) from the band were previously based in Leeds and performed as a duo known as Pave, before expanding the line up with Freddie (Bass) and Charlie Barnes (Guitar) added to the family under Sang Froid, before Freddie was eventually replaced by current bassist Ben Harris.
Recorded at HOHM studios in Bradford with Tom Goodall (Cattle), their Worms EP and standalone single ‘Roadworks’ were released in 2020, before the band settled on the minor alteration Sans Froid to avoid clashes with a French goth rock band of the same name.
Already catching comparisons to exciting contemporaries in fellow progressive heavy music boundary-pushers Exploring Birdsong, PEACH, Chiyoda Ku, CLT DRP, Voronoi and Sugar Horse, their innovative and chameleonic sound also sees them citing Radiohead and The Mars Volta as key influences.
