“Quite truly brilliant.” - When The Horn Blows
“Tapping into their hometown's musical legacies they put their own stamp on them, mesmerising and uplifting.” - John Kennedy, Radio X

“The kind of rock ‘n’ roll that the UK yearns for on big stages.” - Traveller’s Tunes
Manchester quintet Rosellas are a strong proposition to become the UK’s next major breaking rock ‘n’ rollers following the release of their acclaimed EP ‘Somewhere Inbetween’. It shot straight to #1 on the iTunes UK Rock Chart as well as #4 on the iTunes UK Album Chart, and the band followed its release by announcing their biggest headline show to date at Manchester’s Band on The Wall. Now Rosellas stay in the spotlight by sharing a new video for ‘Come Alive’.
The classy black-and-white aesthetic of the ‘Come Alive’ video really complements everything that Rosellas are as a band: its elegance representing the band’s epic indie rock heart, while the monochrome photography underlines the dark euphoria that lurks within the song. Just as importantly it represents their powers as a live band, especially with its close focus on Drew Selby, who delivers its lyrics with a magnetic intensity before switching to the song’s climactic John Squire-meets-David Gilmour guitar solo.
Rosellas commented, “We as a band think this video encapsulates the dramatic energy and ominous theme not only in ‘Come Alive’, but the whole EP ‘Somewhere Inbetween’. We’re all proud of it and think it provides a perfect visual representation of the lyrical content in those five songs.”
The ‘Come Alive’ video was directed by Oliver Shillito, who also produced the ‘Somewhere Inbetween’ EP.
Rosellas started when Drew Selby met guitarist Euan Mail on the train home from a Blossoms gig and then plotted to start a new band during a late night pub session. The line-up was completed with some of the best musicians from their community: Drew’s childhood friend Ollie Appleby (bass); Luis Sullivan (keys, backing vocals), who Drew had worked with during a local youth music initiative; and Mark Zander (drums) who had been studying music alongside Luis.
The band’s ambition was clear from the start when they released two EP’s in quick succession (their self-titled debut and ‘Slowdance’) rather than slowly building with single releases. Their renown continued with shows as guests to Planet, The K’s and Black Grape, while Saul Davies of local heroes James has offered his support. After working independently, they signed to This Feeling Records last year and have since supported Starsailor and Andrew Cushin. As they’ve evolved, Rosellas have become a band who can appeal to fans of Inhaler and DMA’s as well as old school favourites such as The Verve and The Stone Roses.
Rosellas will headline the Y Not? Festival’s Allotment Stage next month, which has been curated by This Feeling. They will play the first This Feeling By The Sea weekender in August as part of a line-up headlined by Red Rum Club and The Lathums before headlining Manchester’s Band on the Wall on September 1st - limited remaining tickets for the show are available HERE.
