Life In Mono return with single ‘When You Play With Fire’

Alternative-rock four-piece Life In Mono return with their single ‘When You Play With Fire’, released January 19th 2024.

Although individually Life In Mono’s eclectic musical influences range from Meshuggah to Bach, via Hendrix, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, All Them Witches and Deftones, collectively there are echoes of PJ Harvey, early Placebo and The Mysterines alongside a darker, heavier undertone. The result? An immersive grunge soundtrack to your favorite, brooding scandi noir drama.

Life In Mono formed in 2019 before being launched unceremoniously into a pandemic. If anything, the enforced downtime propelled the band into creativity, using the time to write and rehearse. It was here that the DNA of the band truly emerged, allowing them to come out of lockdown swinging with a couple of years of well reviewed live shows and releases.

The band took a break from performing for the first half of 2023, preferring instead to spend some time working on new material from a farm in Somerset. Returning with a carefully crafted new set of songs, “When You Play With Fire” is their first new single for a little over a year. This was preceded by a live session of new material with Woodbox Productions and will be followed with another as-yet-unannounced single in early 2024.

Their newest release “When You Play With Fire” delivers in

typical Mono fashion with the black and white of two opposing forces. Subtle yet epic, a song of two dynamic halves, powerful yet sensitive, uplifting yet pensive. Lyrically the song has a hedonistic theme, observing that high risk often doesn’t result in high rewards but rather in repercussions that can be felt for a long time.
