On 2/8/24 singer/songwriter Leo Brazil releases “Alone”, the title track of his upcoming acoustic album. The songs were mostly written during the end of a marriage but the entire album is written, recorded and performed by Leo alone on guitar, keyboard, violin, pedal steel guitar and banjo.

"Making music saved me from a self-destructive path during a challenging and painful time. This song is very personal to me but there's a lot of relatable experiences too; doom scrolling, needing to fill silence, living by yourself and starting over again. I spent the last decade writing songs inspired directly by my fascination with the natural world but after I went through big life events it felt dishonest to not address any of this directly. I put a lot of myself into songs but rarely write directly about me until now. Although dark in places the song ends with a ray of hope. I packed a lot into a short song!"

Leo is developing a range of musical projects for Birds and Beasts Records; playing with different genres and sounds representing his wide interests and abilities. The album 'Alone' is acoustic and stripped back; a period of rediscovery and renewal. Hopefully listeners find something to identify with; we all experience loss and heartbreak in our own ways but we can connect by talking about and sharing our feelings.

Leo tells us about the process of recording this new album:

"I had lots of unfinished songs when my marriage and my last band was ending but I kept writing throughout. I keep notes that allow me to revisit ideas when the time is right, sometimes years later. I was distracting myself from sadness spending hours with drum machines and synthesizers for another project when it occured to me that the music I was performing live and earning money from was mainly just me and an acoustic guitar. I'd never recorded anything like that but it seemed absurd not to. I ended up going through notebooks and video clips for ideas I could group together. Once I started recording I decided it made sense to film everything to capture the performances. I recorded a few simple parts on other instruments to expand the arrangements slightly, but limited myself to a central live performance singing and playing acoustic guitar then kept overdubs minimal and vibey. I'm really proud of the songs and think they represent a challenging time in my life in a positive way."
