Liverpool DIY punks Coughin’ Vicars are pleased to reveal the official video for their new single ‘Reverse The Wound’, released 17th July 2024 via Venn Records.
The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Curses & Prayers on 26th July 2024, following on from early singles ‘Rips of Rain’ and ‘Until The Feeling Turns Cold’ released earlier this spring to support from Kerrang! Magazine, Vive Le Rock, Classic Rock Magazine, VISIONS Magazine, The Punk Site and more.
Commenting on the single, vocalist Roman Remains says: “Birthed in early autumn, in a bare brick room on the fifth floor of a forty-year-old music tomb called Vulcan, the primal chord progression bled out of the window with a subconscious transatlantic rhythm. The nearest we could get to Goo or the District of Columbia with waving hands caught in the tides of west coast garage punk.”
“In word form its empathy for the devil inside us. A musing on Blake's road to the Palace of Wisdom. A beer matt postcard to Lowry or Bukowski. It's a healing song from the slumps of overactive imagination.”
Produced by the band’s own Adam Clarkson (guitar) in Vagrant Studios, Southport during Oct/Nov 2023, Coughin Vicars’ forthcoming album was mixed by the band and mastered by Piers Mortimer (Robert Fripp, Creedence Clearwater), featuring composer/saxophonist Daniel Thorne (Erased Tapes) on ‘The Reach’.
Fresh from slots at Swine Fest and Leodis Requiem Fest, and recently supporting legendary punk bassist Mike Watt (The Stooges, Minutemen, Dos, Firehose), the band will be appearing at Rebellion Festival this summer, with details just announced of a free album release show at Lost Art skate shop in Liverpool on 26th July 2024.

Born from a desire to make androgynous songs amongst a macho musical landscape, the band are indebted to years of service as reluctant protagonists in the city's loudest back rooms, with members previously appearing in the lines ups of Napalm Death, SSS, Cold Ones, Salem Rages and more. The appeal for Vicars was forming a new guard who struggled with books, yet devoured their pages with an almighty gaze; a gang of side-stage students; mosh-pit mutants.
Two years in the making in-between honing their live chops and creeping up the bill alongside the likes of Bo Ningen, Glitterer, Tokky Horror, Serious Sam Barrett, Bruise Control, and more, the album was conceived and constructed in the draughty, bare-brick local institution of dockside rehearsal rooms Vulcan Studios.
The band’s 2022 Ritual Discipline 12” LP was first issued as two self-released Lockdown Tapes (Jan/Oct 2020) under a different lineup, pressed and released in the US by longterm friend Jamie Barrier (The Pine Hill Haints) and his Arkam Records imprint.
The Vicars cemented their current line up with synth player Gabriella on Local Lockdown Heritage Hits featuring covers of Soft Cell (Southport), Mansun (Chestser), Pink Military (Liverpool) and more, introducing her vocals for the first time on 2022 standalone single 'Possession of Fire'.

Repeat, repeat, repeat... yet again, Stop-And-Search "one cuff fits all" philosophy for all... Security Dogs and Feral Cats - which is witch within these acts? Thief of joy? Oh boy... Hardcore Petrichor fills the air.

Infection spontaneity of cobbled streets with pubs to meet is alchemy hard to resist. Under the volcano mentality kicks out, another drink sinks in...
