Leeds Indie Rockers The Slates Drop Brand New Single 'Come Out and Play'
Like all good indie bands, Leeds-based four-piece The Slates started life as four mates with a passion for their songwriting, and an undeniable eagerness to draw a crowd and get them bouncing. A modest goal by some band’s standards, but one they’ve already managed time and time again since their inception back in 2019.
With The Slates having quickly earned themselves a reputation as an impressive live band, bigger stages soon beckoned, with the four-piece playing such loftu venues as the O2 Academy in Leeds, and Manchester Academy 1, countless festival stages, including Isle of Wight and Y-Not as well as a UK tour with ‘90s indie legends Embrace who have spotlighted their potential in the current music scene.
It’s not just on stage in which the band turned heads however. Previous singles such as ‘Hello, Don’t You Know?’ and ‘Shield Your Drink’ released at the back end of 2022 have already proven the band are destined for bigger things, and now with forthcoming single ‘Come Out & Play’ on the horizon, The Slates are getting ready to turn heads all over again.
Described by the band as being about “having a good time with the people around you and living in the moment” it’s an upbeat and optimistic slice of summery Brit-Pop, taking its cues from the genre’s heavyweights whilst injecting a light psych sensibility.
With previous singles surpassing 150,000+ streams across streaming platforms, not to mention selling out every headline show played, ‘Come Out & Play’ is only going to allow the Buzz around The Slates to get louder, and with the band set to go on their biggest UK tour this February, 2024 could very well be their year.
