‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ is the latest single from disabled Welsh Singer/Songwriter  Jenna Kearns. Co-written & produced with Ryan Bickley. ‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ is  about the fear and dread that tomorrow is not guaranteed, which is exactly how I felt  laying in an ICU bed, wondering if I would survive tomorrow.

In ‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ I bear my all, it’s a somber feeling that life is about to end,  talking about how it felt lying in that hospital bed in the last days, with the overarching taunt  that your time was about to run out. The song talks about how in that moment you feel  completely trapped, with no way to pause. The pre chorus really feels like a punch in the  stomach, I don't know if I’ll be here tomorrow, I don’t know if I’ll see a new day, so every time  I say a goodbye, I mean it, just in case.

On the other hand, one part of ‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ that really catches you is the slight  difference in lyrics between each pre chorus. I don't know if I'll be here tomorrow, I don’t

know if I’ll see the sunrise, so every time I say a new hello, I picture our goodbyes. The pre  choruses show two sides, referencing already existing relationships vs the new relationships  forming at the time and preparing to say goodbye to those.

Speaking about ‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ Jenna says “This song hurts because the  moment I was told there was less than 30% chance of me fighting the infection, for those  days in intensive care in my head I was planning my own funeral, the music, colors people  would wear, who I wanted to speak, and photos to be used and even letters I wanted to  leave my loved ones.” Until you are faced with something so traumatic, life never feels the  same, you learn to live life more intensely because you do not know when your time will run  out.

‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ is a classic, traditional pop/ballad with the instrumentation  centered around the vocals, with strong backing vocals to spotlight the heart wrenching  lyrics. Ryan builds from a simple piano base to a full production to lift the emotions of the  song to life, whilst keeping the somber mood.

2 years Jenna was constantly dismissed, being told that nothing was wrong whilst physical  symptoms proved otherwise. However what became of her heart-breaking experience, is  in the form of this sensitive/truthful song ‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’.

‘Cards I’ve Been Dealt’ was written shortly after her recovery and release from hospital,  following a very distressing time for Jenna and all that knew her. A message Jenna stands  by “You know your own body, you know if something is not right, do not let others  dismiss you even health professionals, stand up for yourself.
