Fresh from a series of performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas (including a roaring appearance at the legendary British Music Embassy on Cedar Street), fast-rising Irish newcomer Lemonade Shoelace has revealed the video for his new single 'I Think My Heart Is Set On You' which is out now.

Wearing its influences from Tame Impala, Air and Oscar Lang on its sleeve, Lemonade Shoelace's latest single softens the edges of his sound and shows a vibrant diversity in the songcraft of the hotly-tipped Irish artist.

Mixed again by long-time collaborator Chris Ryan (NewDad, Just Mustard, Robocobra Quartet), Lemonade Shoelace transports listeners to the moon and beyond on this single, the latest taken from his forthcoming debut EP Do Whatever Makes You Happy, released 28th April 2023.

Commenting on the track, Lemonade Shoelace (aka Ruairí Richman) says: “‘I Think My Heart Is Set On You’ is a song about realising that the love and appreciation that you have for someone is much more apparent when distance and separation becomes involved. It also touches on the indecisiveness that can happen in relationships, but ultimately time and solitude will be the measure which decides how you truly feel towards that person. I have learnt during my spiritual journey through life that you really have to appreciate who you are yourself before you can see the qualities in someone else that you find desirable.”

“This song was produced over lockdown, at a point when my partner went to stay with her parents after spending all of her time with me and my family. I already knew that my heart was set on her, but I was left to deal with these new feelings of detachment and separation that led me to dwell on how much she truly means to me. I could think of nothing that I’d rather do than to be with that person. I was alone with the thoughts and memories of her, and an anticipation for what the future could bring. In that moment, this song was born, and my heart’s path had a clear and narrow focus that I would never let time get in the way of."

The video for ‘I Think My Heart Is Set On You’ was filmed and edited in one day in March 2022 by Finnbarr and Ruairí Richman. “I shot it with my brother on my dad’s iPhone with a fisheye lens attached,” says Richman, “and used a spinning kitchen chair to rotate the camera around and make the cool effect with the sky. I love having to be creative, and using weird methods to make things work.”

With the ink still not yet dry on his new global publishing deal with BDi Music—who boast 35 co-written songs with Ed Sheeran and many more co-written hit songs from international artists on their roster—2023 continues to prove to be the year of Lemonade Shoelace.

Following support from VISIONS Magazine (GER), KEXP (USA), Hot Press, The Irish Times and more on the EP’s recent lead single 'Hopscotch In The Sky', the bedroom producer/songwriter is rapidly breaking out of his native Ireland and scoring international acclaim. Previously lauded by VANS and Gibson, championed by Yungblud and Denzel Curry and supported by the BBC, Sirius XM and KEXP, the young artist has continued to deliver on the technicolour promises of his previous work and expand the psychedelic soundscape of his debut release.

Widening the emotional scope of his releases, themes turn to isolation and love on his latest, charting the economics of partnership amidst another anthem-inducing psych-pop track. Melding the conventional with the experimental, and fusing bright multi-coloured riffs with a backbone of house and dance rhythms, the songwriter is totally at home tinkering with intricate melodies and harmonies, and showcases the full strength of them on his latest single.

Lemonade Shoelace will be on the road throughout the UK and Ireland on a short run of May 2023 UK headline tour dates, with tickets on sale now.

More info:

Lemonade Shoelace aims to load up the senses with colour, rich melodies and textures of sound that embrace the last 50 years of popular music. The tracks are written, recorded and produced entirely in a small home studio by one person, delivered in a classic yet futuristic style.

A native of Newcastle, Ireland, he name-checks King Gizzard, Alfie Templeman, Oscar Lang and Tame Impala as influences, and is a specialist in creating dense, vibrant melodies and melding them with psych-pop arrangements and free-flowing indie rock harmonies. A visual artist as much as a musical one, Lemonade Shoelace is on a one-man mission to paint some colour back on the world.

“I knew I wanted to get something bold and colourful. Not just visuals but music you have to listen twice to,” says Ruairí Richman. “I love music where every time you listen to it, you hear something else in the song. Interesting music.”

A skilled producer and songwriter, the Irish musician has already been his work vetted by the likes of Yungblud, Denzel Curry, NME, CLASH, Kerrang and more along with support from national radio. Currently working on his debut EP the miasmic world of Lemonade Shoelace is only set to get weirder.
