Hike the Peak return with new EP “True” out April 14th
After an unexpected delay HIKE THE PEAK return!…if you haven’t heard of us here’s a quick bio…….
My name is Lee, I live in Sheffield in England. My full time band for the last 10 years has been NO CONTEST...Covid changed that aesthetic as we just couldn't get in a room to do stuff and the other band members were very traditional in their song writing ethos.....so i thought id change it up....
Covid lockdowns here hit hard, my mental health went south so i needed something to focus the mind....i decided to upgrade a lot of my audio plug ins and i decided to channel all of my efforts into songwriting and a project 'HIKE THE PEAK' was born......i can't sing for shit but i think i can write a catchy hook and melodies so i reached out to friends from my time touring Europe with No Contest to see what they thought......they thought it was cool. So I asked them if they were willing to write and record some vocals to these songs and I would in turn do whatever digital engineering leg work was required and then pass them on to a friend who is a professional mixer and master who would do his stuff and then Shazam i'd release them!
So starting August 2021 ep 1 was released and then every couple of months I’ve been releasing an ep with 2 songs on each...

1 / Pitfall - Oli Barth Jurca & Oliver ‘Mally’ Rothmeyer - Melonball, Germany
Melonball are making waves already in their young career in the skate punk scene. Hailing from Nuremberg Germany their singles show a political charge with melodies and ferociously catchy tunes. Their debut album ‘breathe’ hits everywhere worldwide on April 1st. When I heard Melonball for the first time I knew I had to get Oli involved straight away……and we’ve been sitting on this track for 6 months..i’m so pleased to release it to the world
In Oli’s own words….
‘For me it was very exciting that Lee asked me if I wanted to be part of Hike The Peak and contribute a track - especially when I saw all the great singers that were already part of the project, like Jo from Coral Springs, Hanne from Fot I Am, Pekka from One Hidden Frame and many many more... With my Melonball we just started in 2020, our first album will be released next year and yet in our small scene we already feel like we are part of it. This is just awesome! Working with Lee was super chilled and basically went the same way we usually write songs with my band: Lee provided an idea for the song, I contributed vocal melody and lyrics and made some suggestions for the song-writing. The contribution of a guitar solo by our guitarist Mally was my idea and completes the song perfectly in my opinion. I'm quite proud to be able to join the ranks of the Hike The Peak musicians with my song "Pitfall" and I'm very excited to hear what other songs and artists Lee has up his sleeve’.
2 / Personal War - Danny Cummings, Fair Dos, England
Danny has been sat in the producers chair for the previous 2 eps and after much badgering I managed to get Danny to give some time to the Hike The Peak output. Usually singing an playing guitar in super tech shred UK skatepunks Fair Do’s Danny brings years of performance and production experience to Hike The Peak to really elevate the project to the next level…..
These new 5 eps will collectively come together as an album entitled ‘ONLY THE TRUE FLY FREE’
The songs released in pairs every couple of months that will culminate in a powerful anthemic collection of songs that can rival anything in the scene currently.
Once again Hike The Peak continue to use legendary mixer, producer, mastering afficianado Jesse Cannon (NOFX, The Menzingers, Limp Bizkit, The Cure, Dillinger Escape Plan) of Found Soundation in New York, USA to master all the tracks.
‘TRUE’ is available on all digital platforms on Friday April 14th 2023
