Following their first live show in 5 years last week at Paper Dress Vintage, London indie-punk duo Happy Accidents are pleased to return with a self-directed video for their new single ‘Blink’, set for release on 11th September 2024.
The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming album Edit Undo, set for release on 27th September 2024 via Alcopop! Records, and follows on from lead single ‘Infinite Possibilities' and follow-up ‘Dog Day’ released earlier this summer.
Commenting on the single, guitarist Rich Mandell says: “Blink centres around the moments in between sentences, the hidden meanings, the unspoken. Communicating the most through not speaking at all. Sometimes, words get in the way of what you actually want to say. The verses are full of contradictions - the webs that you can tie yourself up in with words. But sometimes when you say less, it all makes sense.”
The duo shot and directed the official video for ‘Blink’ themselves, with Mandell explaining of the shoot: “Pheebs and I went on a day trip to Dungeness, which I didn't know anything about, but when we got there I was amazed by this gorgeous setting that felt like a desert. And then we decided to film something!”
Experimenting with ideas of the value of music in the modern age, and examining how time and financial value have all been skewed with today's total lack of scarcity, the band built and invited their fans into a whole secret world around Edit Undo, all taking place on a hidden artist profile on the streaming platforms.
“Doing a release this way has had its challenges,” they say of the new album, “but overall it's been such a fun way to add different dimensions to releasing a record. We're grateful to everyone who took part!”
Happy Accidents have long been a byword for quality and integrity in the UK underground scene, with their members touring internationally in multiple well-loved outfits including cheerbleederz and ME REX, and Mandell producing records from Fresh, Supermilk, Adults and more.
Over the years, their increasingly-finessed output has garnered attention from publications including Noisey, DIY Magazine, Kerrang! Magazine and UPSET, with radio support from Annie Mac and Huw Stephens at BBC R1, Steve Lamacq at BBC 6music and John Kennedy at Radio X, and Spotify UK adding ‘Wait It Out’ to their official Garage Jams playlist.
They’ve also appeared at the likes of Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, 2000 Trees, Truck Festival, Southsea, Hand Made, WTFest, A Carefully Planned… and more, alongside tours across Europe and the UK with the likes of Muncie Girls, Doe and Fresh.
Sinking their solid DIY roots on their 2016 debut album You Might Be Right, new album Edit Undo will be the band’s fifth—and latest for Alcopop! Records—since their 2018 sophomore album Everything But The Here And Now, after self-releasing Sprawling (2020) and cgwarmth (2022), both produced by guitarist/vocalist Rich Mandell.
