Glasgow’s oh, rain share title track from upcoming EP ‘Awful Things’

The Glasgow-based punk/emo band shares their first collection of songs that deal with the dark and complex sides of mental health, relationships and what it means to take accountability for one’s actions.

Awful Things is the debut EP by oh, rain, a four-piece band from Glasgow, Scotland. Largely written before the pandemic, a lineup change which took place soon after the global bastard had its way with us all necessitated the reworking of all the songs on it. With the addition of a new guitar player, oh, rain also chose to write a new song for the EP to really showcase their ability, as well as the way their songwriting had evolved with the inclusion of their new member.

The EP contains five songs that explore a different aspect of relationships, each one touching on some aspect of the human condition and how mental health has a huge effect on one’s self-esteem, self-worth and self-image. The songs are honest, raw and relatable, but also catchy and upbeat. The title track can be found here: https://ingrv.es/awful-things-net-6

"Despite the fact we’ve been a band for almost five years now, things seemed to conspire against us from bringing this EP to life. The work we put in to making this the clearest, most compelling statement of our music and ethos is felt in every track of the EP. We wanted to make an EP that reflects our experiences and feelings about love and life. We don't tend to sugarcoat anything. We hope our fans will connect with our songs and find some comfort or catharsis in them." - oh, rain

The EP will be available on all major streaming platforms and Bandcamp on September 1st. To date, the band have released three tracks from it, including lead single Fake Nice, with an accompanying music video, which you can see here.

The band will also release an alternate version of the EP later in the year, which will contain cover versions and remixes of the songs by various artists such as J W Sturt, OUTBLINKER, Order of the Wolf and Lovers Turn to Monsters. The band plans to tour the EP extensively in 2024. Dates will be forthcoming.

About oh, rain:

oh, rain is formed from the ashes of Glasgow bands False Hopes and Any Last Words. They are a rugged punk band that makes worn, old conventions feel fresh and wear their hearts on their sleeves. Born from the depths of adversity, oh, rain has emerged triumphant, crafting a sound that marries unyielding power with introspective lyricism. Drawing inspiration from influential acts like Hot Water Music, The Menzingers, and The Gaslight Anthem, they forge these punk influences together with the guitar histrionics of Gary Moore and Guthrie Govan,  oh, rain embarks on a sonic journey that transcends genres and leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of listeners. Their debut EP, 'Awful Things,' is an unapologetic exploration of the human condition—a visceral experience that demands to be heard.
