LISTEN

Currently working as a doctor, Zack Runyon always knew his healing calling was pulling him toward something else and it turns out that, that is music so he is taking his first steps into the industry with his poignant debut country single titled ‘That’s What’s Up’ which will be independently released by the artist on October 25th

Growing up in a small town nestled in West Virginia, Zack grew up surrounded by country music and that has influenced his sound today. He is someone who finds true connection through music and with ‘That’s What’s Up’ he delivers a heartfelt, nostalgic look at how life has changed over the ears especially in these post-COVID times, and how we can still joy in troubling moments.

Speaking about the track, Zack Runyon says: “The world has been in chaos and sadness these last few years. I finished up my residency in COVID and political conflicts and that had a way of bringing the sad songs out of me. ‘That’s What’s Up’ came from a place that was desperate to find the joy of life again. It’s being at the bottom and realizing there’s always something to be grateful for. You can always find the good in the bad and let go of the things you can’t control/ The world needs a little more joy amongst the chaos and that’s what I hope this song can bring”.

Following his true passion and frequently visiting Nashville for recording opportunities has given Zac Runyon a new meaning of finding joy and he has encapsulated that in his first release. He’s following his heart and staying true to what his calling is and isn’t listening to outside voices. He is staying in his own lane and showing that dreams can sometimes look different to what you first envisioned for your life.

Doctor-turned-musician Zack Runyon grew up in a small town nestled in West Virginia and began playing music in church at age 5 before progressing to writing his own songs during his early teens, although he wouldn’t ever let anyone hear them as he never truly considered music as a legitimate career choice.

Following his High School graduation, Zack Runyon was tempted to move to Tennessee to play music but instead decided to further his studies at medical school, although he confesses that he’s not quite sure why he chose to pursue that except for the fact that he had the desire to offer some sort of healing and to help people in some way. During his studies, he continued to pursue music privately. His private life further progressed, with him starting a family.

Towards the end of his medical residency, Zack Runyon began to feel ready to share his music with the world and started posting on social media, sharing an original song he had written for his mom, and it instantly resonated and made an impact making him realize in that moment that the best medicine he could offer people was through his songs. The buzz around that post gave him the confidence to start playing live and the connections in the industry grew allowing him to start doing some writer's rounds in Gatlinburg and Nashville.

Zack Runyon has since finished his residency and now works as an ER doctor for around six days a month whilst also juggling being a father to his two children. He has been traveling to Nashville for a little over a year and has quickly realized that his purpose in life is to connect with people through his music, although he has felt some fear that his decision to pursue music may not be fully accepted within the religious communities he grew up in, but he has come to the conclusion that he only has one life to live and to be who he’s truly supposed to be. So, he is now intending to transition from providing medical care in a hospital, to providing healing and influence through music. The best medicine.
