Experimental Hip-Hop Outfit Mode Collapse share EP “Alternative Dreaming Techniques”
Alternative Dreaming Techniques is the upcoming EP by Mode Collapse, an alternative experimental hip-hop act. It is about recurring entities we all face in our sleep—could it be crooked stairs you try to jump over and over again or trying to catch something you desire but just running in place?
The EP flows through different genres, adding elements of styles like free jazz and electronic music with conscious hip-hop lyrics, finding similarities in sounds with artists from the alternative hip-hop scene like Jpegmafia and Iceboy Violet, to name a few.
Inspired by anime, internet culture, present-day identity crisis, generational problems, and memes, a world with a weird blend of imagination and real life appeared. Mode Collapse is a universe with its own characters that continues to unveil itself through different mediums, such as music, manga, visual art, and videos, showing snippets of data to a listener, which they combine into a whole picture with one's own imagination.
For this release, Mode Collapse collaborated with an artist, Sveta Kononova, to show the imagery of our faint memories projected into our minds again and again through our dreams.
The whole EP carries an ethereal feeling, starting from rough-sounding PWN Shop, moving to a welcoming Alternative Dreaming Techniques track, which evolves into a cold-sweating apogee, before coming back into groovy, Time-Travel Bossanova. Lastly, the Rawnin track finishes the EP with conscious lyrics, with a slight hint of irony which we see in our day to day life.
