EP REVIEW: Telltale - Lie Your Way Out
Let's cut to the chase. I'm a massive Pop Punk fan and being familiar with the genre I think I can identify with a certain amount of confidence what makes a good Pop-Punk track. Over the years I’ve heard so many different takes on the genre. Some of the bands stuck with me becoming some of my favourites across my entire music taste. However, so many more missed the mark as not being quite good enough or not having enough originality which left me playing the same bands over and over. To cut to my point, I can say with all sincerity Telltale are a fine example of the genre and pressed all my Pop Punk buttons! The Lie Your Way Out EP is one of the most complete and comprehensive examples of the genre I've heard in a long time.
There's the classic infectious pop punk sound, with electric riffs with a little metalcore and alt rock thrown in to beef things up. Singer John has an exceptional voice, some pop punk can seem whiny or a little too high pitched but his vocals are near perfect.
The collaboration with Honey Revenge on COBAIN was a welcome surprise, the two voices complimenting each other very well. I had to laugh at the Katie Perry Hot N Cold interlude of Pessimist. The title track Lie Your Way Out is my personal favourite and really showcases the band's talent.
If you enjoy bands such as You Me at Six, Real Friends or Red Jumpsuit Apparatus I think you're going to really like Telltale.
