EP REVIEW: Adult Leisure - The Weekend Ritual

To be honest this EP's some of the best new music I've heard this year and if you've not given it a spin you're missing out! Adult Leisure have created something that sounds how I imagine The Smiths would sound if they were around today! It's infectious and addictive from a band who are criminally underrated.

"The Weekend Ritual" is one of these records that clicks within seconds, has you hooked throughout and leaves you reaching for the repeat button when it ends.

There's plenty of jangle, glittering hooks, vocals that have the most beautiful tone and an all round listenable sound. It infuses arty rock with melodic pop-ish tones and post punk tendencies.

EP starter 'Happiness' features a laid back surfy vibe with heavy riffs and a catchy chorus. It's punchy, confident and a great opener.

'Modern Son' has dazzling, chiming 80's influenced guitars. Musically artistic, vocally infectious and indie pop laced.

'Control' starts out smooth and understated before building into a bold, anthemic rock anthem.

'I Don't Wanna Talk' has an electrifying hook, playful bouncing drums, relaxed nonchalant vocals and screaming guitars. It intensifies for the chorus which is attitude heavy and beaming with likeable swagger.

The EP closes on 'Things You Don't Know Yet' which is articulate with hints of the New Romantic era and a sound reminiscent of 'This Charming Man'. It sparkles with an up-tempo jangle and catchy little groove.

In summary "The Weekend Ritual" is an absolute gem and your life won't be complete until you hear it!
