Centerfold share their new single “Drowning”

June 28th 2024 (Liverpool, UK) ---- Today, Centerfold unveil their new single “Drowning” ---- listen HERE. The track previews their eagerly anticipated debut EP. “Drowning” is the second single off that EP.

“Drowning” shows Centerfold further expanding on their sound for their upcoming EP. In a similar vein to their previous single “Last Dance”, “Drowning” explores more of the sombre tones with Josh Stevenson emotionally delivering lyrics detailing the struggles of mental health in today’s world. The song opens with an atmospheric guitar pad from Ciaran Gaffney calling to the band’s more sonically ambitious influences such as Radiohead. This coupled with the low-end cushion of Tom Proudlock on bass and the thunderous drums of Jamie Munns takes the listener on a journey through the story of the lyrics. The song demonstrated one of Centerfold’s strongest assets; their catchy chorus melodies with the soaring vocals of Stevenson supported by huge guitar riffs of Gaffney and the thunderous rhythm section. The highlight of the song comes in the final section when the band build a movie-like soundscape for the listener to swim in.

Centerfold have said “This song looks further into our new era, opened with Last Dance. This song is on the more atmospheric end and is always a favourite of ours to play live. The contrast between the huge choruses and delicate verses keeps us wanting to play the song repeatedly. We hope we can take our listeners on a journey, and this song we feel really does that well”.

Centerfold are a 4-piece heavy alternative band from Liverpool taking inspiration from the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead and Royal Blood. They are known to their listeners for taking a three-dimensional approach to what the band feels has largely become a stale and repetitive genre. The band were formed in university and were drawn together through a frustration with the heavier music scene, looking for music which represented them as people. Upon playing together, they realised that they were creating the music they were looking for, and in doing so, quickly built a following in the local Liverpool music scene with their high energy shows and technical prowess.
