Brighton garage punks newcomers Currls are pleased to reveal their new single ‘April Fool’ which is set for release on 2nd November 2023 via Small Pond Records.

The track is the latest to be taken from the Small Pond Presents: Emerging Vol. 3 compilation album, which will be released on 24th November 2023 via Brighton-based multi-disciplinary music company Small Pond.

Commenting on the single, vocalist/guitarist Holly Deanna said: “‘April Fool’ is an ode to confusion in relationships—the frustration of not knowing where you stand with someone. When I wrote this back in 2015/16, it was a reflection of how I felt at the time—now I look at it more as a power ballad that's directed at people that waste your time with indecision, and just the eagerness of being so close to something but just not being able to reach it. This song is about getting your own power back and, ultimately, remember: NEVER let anyone mess you around or stand in your way of greatness.”

An independent garage rock trio whose music will leave you feeling ready to take on the world, from humble beginnings in 2017 Brighton-based trio Currls have wasted no time in carving out a name for themselves.

Their compelling mix of raw garage rock, hard-hitting, fast-paced punk, and sludgy pop should appeal to fans of Black Honey, Coach Party, The Beths, and PEANESS, and has already landed them on BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens Introducing Show and caught the attention of BBC Introducing’s Melita Dennett, who hunted them down after hearing them at The Great Escape Festival.

Most recently, the band were featured on Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent longlist 2022 and have been featured by BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Amy Lamè and Craig Charles, and BBC Radio 1's Alyx Holcombe.

Building on the success of previous projects, Small Pond’s ‘Emerging’ artist development project once again gives talented young acts (aged 16-25) from Brighton and the South of England the opportunity to rehearse, record, and release their music via Small Pond’s professional studio, label and PR set-up.

The track follows on from the album’s lead single ‘Fancy Word For Addiction’ by emo-hardcore trio prom, and follow up track ‘A Circus’ by local punks City Dog, with further names and more details of the compilation’s tracklist to be released over the coming months.

More about Emerging:
Small Pond is a young, multi-disciplinary music company run by a team of musicians, audio engineers and industry professionals, centred around a thriving rehearsal and recording studio complex in the centre of Brighton.

Over the last four years the Small Pond imprint has boasted releases from more than fifteen acts in varying genres, gaining high profile support from a wide spread of media including The Guardian, BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1 and beyond. The label’s roster, past and present, includes The Physics House Band, Natalie Evans, Inwards, Wild Cat Strike, Town Portal, Yama Warashi, Alarmist, Brian Campeau, Bonniesongs, InTechnicolour, and Luo.

The Emerging project, which has been awarded funding from Arts Council England, focuses on giving promising artists the opportunity to experience all stages in the production and promotion of a record. The process culminates in the pressing and distribution of a compilation album on 12-inch vinyl and digital platforms in a 2021 release, and features a track from each of the acts selected.

Along with a marketing and PR campaign for the release, musicians will receive support and industry guidance in the form of workshops, pre-production meetings and mentoring throughout the process. Each act will also receive an allocation of the finished vinyl to sell as merchandise, getting them on the way to earning a tangible income from their music.

The project was launched in 2020 with the resulting 8 track compilation Small Pond Presents: Emerging featuring singles from MY-HI, CLT DRP, PLACID, El Moono, KING BEE, San Dingo, BADLAWS, and The Subtracks, with CLT DRP going on to sign a full album deal with Small Pond for the release of their debut full-length record Without The Eyes earlier this year. Volume 2 was released in 2021 and featured tracks from Lambrini Girls, Bridie Florence, Maya Caskie, Harper, every rose, Dirty, Big Bad, and Masquerader.
