Bedbug share new single ‘postcard’ ahead of return LP
On February 16th, bedbug will release “postcard,” the second single from March 15th’s ‘pack your bags the sun is growing’ LP.
“postcard” follows January’s surprise “halo on the interstate” single (which was featured by NPR Music, Spotify “Fresh Finds” and Pitchfork Selects), and it sees Built to Spill-esque melodies combine with Kinsella-like guitar work and an eccentric emotionality akin to a young Isaac Brock.
The evolving project of Dylan Gamez Citron (they/them), bedbug debuted as a Boston-based solo project in 2016 with ‘if i got smaller grew wings and flew away for good’ before issuing two albums through the Joy Void imprint of Run For Cover Records. This period saw bedbug reach new fans through gorgeous write-ups from top outlets all across the world, as well as live performances with the likes of Japanese Breakfast, Grouper, Lomelda, Snail Mail, Strange Ranger, and Frog.
The upcoming fourth album, ‘pack your bags the sun is growing,’ promises to be very different. Not only is it their first in nearly four years, it’s also their only LP to be studio-recorded or to feature the full band lineup. This expanded iteration of bedbug has a new urgency, and offers an unashamed love letter to their indie and emo heroes, Conceptually, it’s kaleidoscopic, blending surrealist storytelling with confessional lyricism to preserve the lofi warmth and bedroom pop heart of Citron’s past solo works.
‘pack your bags the sun is growing’ is available now for pre-order from Disposable America (CD/Cassette/Digital).
