[Asheville, NC] - Today, Tyler Ramsey has released the deluxe edition of his fifth studio album New Lost Ages (Soundly Music). The Deluxe Edition features two previously unreleased B-sides: “Song Out Of My Head,” which was released earlier this fall and “Paper Hearts.” “Song Out Of My Head” is a study of recurring thoughts, explains Tyler. “Memories or images or maybe regrets that might keep you up in the middle of the night. At the same time, it’s a search for hope.” “Paper Hearts” reflects on a trip to New York City taken after the loss of a friend.
“Paper hearts” is a photograph of a trip I took up to New York City a long time ago after the loss of a friend. This song went through a lot of changes and I am so happy with this final version- Scott Moore’s string arrangements are breathtaking and Carl Broemel added some beautiful pedal steel. Was a dream to work with Phil Ek and when I listen to this song it takes me back to our time at Avast Recording Studio in Seattle and reminds me what a special record we made together.
New Lost Ages was recorded at the legendary Avast! Recording Co. in Seattle, Washington, by acclaimed producer Phil Ek (known for his work with Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, and Built to Spill). The album is an ongoing sonic quest, meticulously wandering across a rich landscape of indie, rock, and folk stylings. It explores the journey of peeling back layers of oneself to uncover the dusty boxes of the past stored in the closet of the mind. It’s about memories and mistakes, lessons and lifelines, all coming together to bring the present moment into focus—a future bright with possibility and purpose, as long as one never forgets the road to the here and now.
Living in Asheville, Tyler has been reflecting deeply on the recent devastation brought by Hurricane Helene. He shared, “Taken out of context and placed only on an individual scale the destruction from Hurricane Helene here at my home was intense and shocking. Placed back into the context of my region and city, and my community and family and friends, and what devastation people have experienced, my family & I got off incredibly easy. Our surrounding area has taken a hit that I never dreamt was possible. This storm has made it once again clear to me that as a society we can somehow remove ourselves from the devastation and despair and suffering that may be happening just a couple of states over or even streets over or somewhere across the world. We somehow forget that it could always be us. Maybe it’s a safety mechanism. But to see the way people show up for each other when we are all in it together- there is such beauty in that- and hope. Thank you to everyone that is out trying to help people. Thank you to my friends and neighbors that have helped us.”
This unexpected intertwining of personal experiences and collective resilience underscores a compelling theme in Tyler’s latest project. As he explores his own journey, the subject matter in his music echoes the shared challenges and victories of his community, offering a poignant reflection of contemporary life. Recently, Tyler contributed a live version of his song “New Lost Ages”, recorded with his band at Parkway Studios in Asheville in August 2024, for the WNC Hurricane Relief benefit compilation “Cardinals at the Window”, comprised of 136 unreleased songs for $10, of which 100% of proceeds are split evenly between Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Rural Organizing and Resilience (ROAR), & BeLoved Asheville. Also included on the release are the War On Drugs, Angel Olsen, R.E.M., Dawes, Iron & Wine, S.G. Goodman, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats, Tyler Childers, Waxahatchee, The Avett Brothers, Jason Isbell, and more. The song "New Lost Ages" is about growing out of youth and innocence and watching this beautiful world get destroyed, and about searching for hope through the eyes of a father who is seeing his children experience this same world with new eyes and grace and wonder. “Cardinals” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Compilation Albums chart, and in the top 10 on both Top Album Sales (No. 5) and Americana/Folk Albums (No. 8).
Since releasing his album New Lost Ages this past February, Tyler has kept busy with a US Spring Headline tour, dates opening for The Secret Sisters, and The White Buffalo, as well as teaching songwriting classes during Contemporary Folk Week at the Swannanoa Gathering. This past September, Ramsey and his band supported Airborne Toxic Event on 18 dates across the US including Warsaw in Brooklyn, Webster Hall in NYC and The Fillmore in Philadelphia. Later this month, a European headlining tour will start in Oslo on Oct. 28th, followed by dates including London at The Waiting Room on November 15, Take Root Festival in The Netherlands, and supporting Lissie on 6 sold out shows across the UK.

For Tyler Ramsey, it’s being able to honestly connect with the listener.
Albeit a genuinely humble soul, don’t let Ramsey fool you. When it comes to the modern-day singer-songwriter, he remains a bastion of musical talent and lyrical aptitude — a melodic voice-of-reason and safe haven amid a 21st century world seemingly gone mad. The former lead guitarist of Band of Horses, Ramsey has released five acclaimed solo albums, including “For The Morning” in 2019.
The latest album “New Lost Ages” is about peeling back the layers of oneself, to locate and open up the dusty boxes of your past from the back of the closet of your mind. It’s memories and mistakes, lessons and lifelines bringing the present moment into focus — the future bright with possibility and purpose, so long as you never forget the road to the here and now.
Alongside bassist Morgan Henderson (Fleet Foxes) and drummer Sean Lane (Ann Wilson), Ramsey found himself fronting a full-on rock outfit in the studio, a scenario that conjured fresh inspiration and straightforward determination within the recording process — something genuinely heard and felt in the hauntingly poignant number “These Ghosts.”
Pushing further and farther down the rabbit hole of “New Lost Ages,” the melodies are aimed at sincere connectivity through honesty and vulnerability — symbiotic realms that nurture the genuine splendor and lore of Ramsey’s recordings and stoic stage presence in a live setting.
