ALBUM REVIEW: Windwaker - Love Language

Windwaker are a four piece Metalcore outfit from Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. They formed in 2014 the band have released 6 singles, their first The Charade featuring Zach Britt of fellow Australian Metalcore act Dream On, Dreamer and 2 EP’s They have also undergone a few line-up changes along the way. They have toured extensively in their native Aus and are now hoping to try pastures new with debut album "Love Language"

The album was announced on December 31st via Fearless Records and lead single “Beautiful” was released on February 11th 2022 and has since been succeeded by three further singles. The line-up for the record consists of lead vocalist Will, alongside lead guitarist Jesse, Indey on Bass and drummer Chris.

There's a lot going on on "Love Language,” everything from Electronic Metal comparable to the likes of Pendulum, a helping of Pop Punk and an interlude that led me to think I was listening to N-Sync! However I think the band I would most liken the overall sound of the album to is Blessthefall with powerful riffs and soaring, epic vocals. For the most part I really enjoyed the record. I found some songs really captured my attention while others on first listen I realised I'd not paid any attention to at all. I think at times "Love Language" tries to be too original and blurs the lines of too many genres that it falls a little short.

I enjoyed the single "Beautiful." It starts off with massive vocals showing the incredible clarity in Will's voice before shifting to the Electronica sound of Pendulum then shifting once again to some very Pop Punk vibes. The song captivates and keeps your attention because you're wondering what's coming next. It's very original and well produced. "Lucy" is a classic metalcore love song with a powerhouse chorus and swooping melodies. I was besotted with it from the first listen. "Superstitious Fantasy" starts off with some very poppy, boy band vocals before kicking into full screamo mode, it works well and further reaffirms the originality of this band.

Overall "Love Language" is a really mixed bag from Windwaker, it's not perfect and there are definitely songs I'll skip on future listens but I like the fact it kept me guessing and wondering what to expect next. If you're a fan of Metalcore, Screamo and even Pop Punk I recommend giving "Love Language" a try.
