WILD SPELKS Reveal Video For Rousing Anthemic New Single ‘Getting The Band Back Together Again’ Released 21st May 2024
Newcastle melodic punk newcomers Wild Spelks are proud to reveal the official video for their new single ‘Getting The Band Back Together Again’ which is released on 22nd May 2024.
Directed by Kristian Young and featuring bigfatbig frontwoman Robyn Walker on guest vocal duties, the huge new track and accompanying video are jam-packed with the nostalgia and rush of excitement that comes from those first early forays into band life, and discovering the rush of playing music with your best friends.
If the chanted chorus refrain—‘distortion fizzes in my ears, I’ll play this song for a hundred years’—doesn’t hit you right in the teen angst practice sessions, did you ever even band?
Commenting on the new single, Sabiston says: “I think this is the best song I’ve ever written (so far), the epitome of Wild Spelks—a song about friendship, youth, and playing in bands. My inspiration for the song was Blue album Weezer, Bleed American Jimmy Eat World, and that fun era of pop rock. Featuring the legendary vocals of Robyn from North East band bigfatbig too, really bringing a joyous feel to the chorus. We've also been so lucky to have Kristian Young direct the video for this track, he’s done an incredible job in creating the feel of nostalgia and practising in bedrooms, like we used to when we were younger.”
‘Getting The Band Back Together Again’ is the final single to be taken from Wild Spelks’ debut EP A House Full Of Strangers, set for release on 21st June 2024, and available to preorder now: https://ffm.to/ahousefullofstrangers
The EP was produced, mixed, and mastered by songwriter/musician/producer Jonathon Sabiston throughout 2023 at home in his Newcastle flat, with drum takes recorded at Blank Studios, Newcastle with engineer Chris McManus (Pit Pony, Du Blonde, TV Death).
The new single follows on from previously-released tracks ‘Take It From A Friend’ and ‘Help Myself’ which were released earlier this year and picked up support from alternative tastemakers at Rock Sound, VISIONS, NARC. Magazine, Already Heard, God Is In The TV Zine, Maximum Volume and more.
Following appearances at Exit Music Festival alongside English Teacher and a support slot with fellow Geordies Fast Blood earlier this month, Wild Spelks will support local favourites Weekend Faithful on 27th May @ Lubber Fiend, Newcastle, with further live shows TBA.
