CATCH VENUS GRRRLS ON TOUR WITH SPRINTS NEXT MONTH

Fresh from their biggest headline performance at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds straight after the release of their returning single “Divine”,  VENUS GRRRLS are proving to be an undeniable addition to the UK rock scene. Today, the Leeds/Newcastle-based rock coven revealed their transformative new single “Bloodsick” and details of their first-ever UK headline tour set for September.

“Bloodsick” - recorded by Sugar House and mixed/mastered by Grammy-nominated Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Nova Twins) - sees VENUS GRRRLS crystallise their emerging goth-grunge sonority with a strong early riot grrrl-influenced undercurrent. Evoking an alternate timeline where Bikini Kill predated both Romanticism and Siouxsie and The Banshees, it’s VENUS GRRRLS narrative talent that stands out once again; lead singer GK’s vocal inflections are a commanding presence against cascading riffs and synth motifs. Continuing work with their trusted collaborator Misha Warren, “Bloodsick” arrives with new visuals - watch here

“Bloodsick describes a change, or a metamorphosis of a being that has become far more insular and isolated” GK says of the track, “It is a grief of what once was, that transcends into a bittersweet liberation of a new body, or way of living both physically and emotionally.”

As well as new music, VENUS GRRLS have announced details of their first-ever headline tour. In a move that speaks to VENUS GRRRLS own experience with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), the band have partnered with stem cell transplant charity Anthony Nolan.

Anthony Nolan uses its register of 900,000 people to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer and blood disorder patients in need of stem cell transplants. All shows on the 8-date run will have Anthony Nolan volunteers present to provide more information about stem cells, their role in treating AML via transplant and the importance of people aged 16-30 signing up to the stem cell register.

Charlotte Cunliffe, Director of Register Development at Anthony Nolan says: “When people in the public eye, like GK, share their experiences, it inspires others to seek out how they can help which is why we’re thrilled VENUS GRRRLS will be encouraging their fans to learn more about stem cell donation on tour.”

“At Anthony Nolan we know that one individual can transform the lives of patients with blood cancer and blood disorders. VENUS GRRLS fans – your stem cells could hold the key to someone's survival and starts with a simple swab. We need people aged 16-30, particularly young men and those from minority ethnic backgrounds, to join the Anthony Nolan register. By doing so, you could be the lifeline someone desperately needs, offering them a second chance at life.”

VENUS GRRRLS kicked off the year by releasing “Divine”. The lustful foray into a heavier sound received praise from Jack Saunders and Nels Hylton at BBC Radio 1 as well as press acclaim from the likes of Kerrang!, DORK, Hot Press, Distorted Sound and DIY who hailed the single as “...a glorious start to 2024 for the alt-rock group.”

In the last 56 days, VENUS GRRRLS have performed their biggest hometown headline show, welcomed 30K new Instagram followers and an additional 5K monthly Spotify listeners  to the coven and have now been featured on DSP editorial playlists over 100 times. Also, GK was the first guest to appear on new podcast  Upgrade Sounds with Nels Hylton in a two part interview which was released in February and available to watch here

Be sure to catch VENUS GRRRLS when they support Sprints on their SOLD-OUT “Letter To Self” UK headline tour next month (starting at London’s Heaven on Wednesday, 3rd April).
