VALLORY FALLS INTRODUCE ROWDY DOUBLE SINGLE ‘AS ABOVE, SO BELOW’ & ‘TO SAVE YOU’

Vallory Falls is back with a rabid double-single preview of their upcoming album To Save You.

“As Above, So Below” and the title track “To Save You” continue the spooky imagery of the band’s previous single “Want Me Dead,” with mentions of graveyards and Salem. With a combined runtime of just over six minutes, both tracks are candid, no-frills punk bangers.

Yet, the songs diverge in their tone. While “As Above, So Below” tells a charming tale of love that feels like home, “To Save You” cautions against people-pleasing.

Let’s take my car and go see Barbie / Gaze at the stars / I hardly worry,” vocalist Tristan Gilliss sings about a cozy date night on “As Above, So Below.” “The radio is warning of the future / I won’t feel unsure / As long as it’s with her.” It’s an end-of-the-world love song, where nothing else matters but the feeling of infatuation.

Gilliss explained the inspiration for the track's title:

"I had seen the phrase 'As Above, So Below' a few times and it caught my eye. The idea resonated with me; a sort of dichotomy between life and death, give and take, and harmony that brought on a strong feeling of 'carpe diem.' That's what I wanted to get across in the song: loving like it's your last day, feeling no worries, taking advantage of what you have while you have it and not feeling afraid. If there is something like an afterlife or some other dimension, you should always strive to be the fullest version of yourself possible."

With tight power chords and distorted harmonics, the songs nod to pop punk legends like Green Day & blink-182. “As Above, So Below” is one of very few Vallory Falls songs without lead guitar. Instead, bassist Dan Lecours dances around the fretboard and layered backing vocals from the band fill in the space.

“To Save You” kicks off with high intensity and a skate punk riff from Gilliss. The title track depicts a narrator with a savior complex and the toxicity of one-sided relationships.

I thought this was the last time / While you write your famous last lines / I’ll look inside and know / that everything’s alright,” Gilliss sings.

Gilliss wrote the track toward the breakup of his previous band. He was both surprised and excited that an older song gets a chance to shine on Vallory Falls' debut and encompasses the album's themes so well.

"['To Save You' has] a lot to do with spreading yourself too thin, and becoming so complacent with being used but recognizing it's just a moment in time. [At the time I wrote the song,] I was working a job I completely hated. I was staying up until 2 AM every night trying to resolve other people's problems for them and receiving nothing in return, saving face at bars in Salem. But then there's the line in the chorus where the situation is accepted for what it is, where the crux of the album is realized: 'I look inside and know / that everything is alright,'" Gilliss said.

Vallory Falls will kick off the Summer Camp Tour with To Save You’s release show on June 29 in their hometown Burlington, VT. Check out additional northeast dates below.

ABOUT VALLORY FALLS

Vallory Falls is a force of energetic pop punk desperation, a heart-on-the-sleeve remedy to the angst felt in the shadow of the great Green Mountains. From its formation in 2021, the band has shown its thematic diversity in singles such as “Rosie” and “This Too Shall Pass.” Dealing with issues of longing, regret and the fear of change, their music resonates with the disadvantaged underbelly of New England’s own.

Massachusetts native and frontman Tristan Gilliss saw the band as an opportunity to make a statement. In the midst of both a move to Vermont and a lineup change in 2021, he enlisted bassist Riley Burridge after seeing her perform at a benefit concert in South Burlington. Riley played only one show on bass guitar before the departure of original members Matt Wilson and Kat Delitto.

After a difficult year trying out new bandmates, toiling over demos, and considering Riley’s time drumming in local acts while attending Lyndon State, the idea of an instrument change was floated. Days later, the duo found themselves driving to the US border with Canada to purchase a used kit. Within weeks of this shift, the band had their bassist in Dan Lecours of Michigan. Won over by his drive and relentless dry humor, the band finally began playing shows together in their new home state.

2023 saw further lineup changes on lead guitar, with the group fleshing out their sound with the indelible melodic experience brought by guitarist Meghan Burke. Having played in numerous staple punk rock bands in the area, Meghan is the newest member of Vallory Falls. In late 2023 and into early 2024, the band began recording in Gilliss’ basement studio for their debut studio album.

Vallory Falls have played countless shows in the greater New England area, with plans far beyond their home state. For booking inquiries, please contact the band at valloryfalls@gmail.com
