Istanbul-born, London-based musician SISSY MISFIT announces her debut album EXXXOSKELETON, set for release on June 7th.
To announce the album, SISSY MISFIT unveils her new single 'PUSH THE NEEDLE', along with its accompanying video, marking the first of a series of interconnected visuals linked to her upcoming album. “I see my music as quite visual and love creating a world for that. I aim to bring back the excitement and glory of music videos as i think it is now a dead art form. 'PUSH THE NEEDLE' is a dream come true to see that was created with a small budget with my wonderfully talented friends in London. Its all a nod to creation, pop culture and MTV” says SISSY MISFIT.
‘PUSH THE NEEDLE’ is a marker of this being her second release post transition, as she exclaims “I want cars, plastic tits, lips, I wanna be the girl I see in my dreams” a celebration of transitioning with images in the video of what she sings about as ‘latex dreams’.
SISSY is known for lighting up dancefloors with her ear-shattering, tooth-loosening industrial dance and screamo-pop sets. With over 7 years in Istanbul's underground music scene, SISSY has crafted a unique fusion of electronic, industrial, hardcore, and pop music, punctuated by her signature scream vocals.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists such as Yoko Ono, Nine Inch Nails, SOPHIE, and Lady Gaga, her innovative sound and conceptual live performances have garnered attention across the EU and UK. This includes recognition from iconic fashion designer Rick Owens, who stumbled across SISSY on Instagram, leading her to be the face of his recent campaign with Dr. Martens in which he described her in Dazed magazine as “a raw and ferocious, self-invented abandon,”
In addition to her musical endeavours, SISSY organises 'CEHENNEM' events, spotlighting live electronic music by trans+ producers and artists.
SISSY MISFIT’s forthcoming debut album, EXXXOSKELETON, is a captivating blend of what she describes as "sexy, dark, and dangerous with a touch of camp.” Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of influences, the album seamlessly merges the dark and twisted with the sexy and fun. From the mysterious realms of David Lynch to the literary genius of Ryu Murakami, and the haunting artistry of H.R. Giger to Japanese Cyberpunk and gore films like 964 Pinocchio and Tetsuo, SISSY creates a rich tapestry of sound. This intriguing mix is juxtaposed with her deep-rooted love for pop culture, encapsulating the energy of “Madonna, Gregg Araki movies, night-outs with my dolls, Lady Gaga, and other icons of the 2010s pop world,” she adds.
This album marks a significant milestone for SISSY, as it not only represents her first work post-transition but also serves as a celebration of pride, fierceness, and strength. It embodies newfound power and represents a departure from her previous themes of melancholy and trauma. As SISSY aptly puts it, "This record, to me, is a statement of pride, fierceness, fun, and strength I have found in me to finally exude to the world. It carries a certain type of power."
