Tour announce : The Nightingales + Ted Chippington UK Tour
The Nightingales + Ted Chippington UK Tour 2 - 11 May 2024
The tour is named 'Off The Beaten Track' as The Nightingales wished to play no major touring cities, in support of new territories and small venues , bringing their good mate Ted Chippington along with them
The Nightingales are a British post-punk/alternative rock band, formed in 1979 in Birmingham, England, by four members of Birmingham's original punk group The Prefects. 2021 saw a feature length Nightingales documentary film, “King Rocker” – written by brilliant stand up comedian Stewart Lee, directed by Michael Cumming (‘Brass Eye’, ‘Toast Of London’, etc)
Chippington avoids observational comedy in favour of anti-humour and jokes which are mostly variations on the same theme, delivered in a West Midlands monotone. His deadpan style has won him a small number of devoted followers. Stewart Lee has often cited Chippington as the reason he began stand-up comedy, describing the act as "a mixture of surrealism and insolent provocation and uncompromising boredom" and citing him as "the first post-alternative comedian"
