Bristol, UK folk-punk/emo trio Toodles & The Hectic Pity are pleased to share their new single ‘Sitting Down In The Shower’ which is out now via Bristol independent champions Specialist Subject Records.
The track is the latest to be taken from their debut album Hold Onto Happiness With Both Hands which will be released on 23rd June 2023 and is available to preorder now—the band have also revealed the tracklist and album artwork, see below for details.
Commenting on the new single, front man Callum McAllister says: “This song started from some pretty abstract horrifying dreams about people giving birth to insects, and then running with some of those horrible images. This is a song that we didn’t want to be merely depressing, and so it’s sort of split into two parts. The beginning, which is kind of bleak and horrible, and the second half which starts with the chords running up the guitar neck rather than down, and the lyrical content being about the idea that sometimes you reach rock bottom emotionally, but at least then you know where the bottom is, and you know it’s only up from there. I guess it tries to encourage you to look forward to a time when what you’re going through will be over.”
Forthcoming debut album Hold Onto Happiness With Both Hands was recorded and produced by Phil Booth jr. at JT Soar, Nottingham in October 2022, with cello, percussion and backing vocals recorded at Woodbox, Bristol by Dom Mosley. The album was mixed by Robin Newman at Snug Recording Co., Nottingham and mastered by Ian Farmer and his cat, Onion, at The Metal Shop in Philadelphia, PA.
Previous singles ‘Emotionally Unclean’ and ‘The Enemies of Happiness Are Not Napping!’ were released earlier this year to praise from underground tastemakers at Noizze, Alt Corner, Shout Louder, Indie For Bunnies, Scene Point Blank, Breathing The Core and more, with continued radio support from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6music, Amazing Radio, Phoenix FM, WTSQ, WSUM, MMH Radio and more.
Fresh from a run of dates with Cardiff indie-poppers Live, Do Nothing the band will be appearing at 2000 Trees in Cheltenham ahead of their own UK album tour dates in July 2023, which include an album release show on 27th July at The Mount Without, Bristol with support from Exeter indie/shoegaze newcomers Soot Sprite and fellow Bristolian garage punks Cosmit (see below for full listings).
Further details and new music will be revealed over the coming months.
