TOKKY HORROR New EP 'KAPPACORE' 12th May / Single 'Toilet' out now
Punk collective TOKKY HORROR have announced today their new EP 'KAPPACORE', out the 12th May via Venn Records.
Pre-order the EP - HERE. To celebrate the release the band have released video for new single 'TOILET', the second offering to be taken from the upcoming EP.
Speaking about the new EP the band said, “This is the last thing we’ll put out before disappearing to record our album. It’s road tested, high energy material from the first era of Tokky Horror. We’ve wanted to meld breakbeats with visceral guitars as we usually do, but expanded our range of sampling further and pushed our weirdness at times, there’s less out-and-out riffs and more times where our love of Orbital and Aphex Twin shines through. It’s still a record for the punks, just not purists.”
Speaking about the new single the band said, “TOILET is a heartbreak song about falling out of love with a scene. I grew up feeling like a punk scene, or a DIY scene, or an activist scene would be this perfect space of inclusivity. Somewhere where we’ll all be welcome and motivated to actively bring around the change we talk about. That perspective is probably a little naive, and with time we’ve grown to see we should be creating new scenes and new spaces. Inspired by the energy those original movements but being the changes we feel they need. I always felt more at home in a punk club than a “gay bar”, that doesn’t mean those spaces are “wrong” it just means there is a sub-culture of people who don’t have a space. So here with Tokky, we want to create one.”

The band, who are based in Birkenhead, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester & Bristol, formed during the covid-19 pandemic in 2021 and describe themselves as “Virtual Hardcore”. “Hardcore” as a play on the merge of hardcore punk & hardcore techno used in their music, and how that term means different things to different scenes (but ultimately comes down to the same energy). “Virtual” as a reference to how to the band met and continue to create online. The bands first compilation was released via Alcopop! Records in 2021 featuring the singles “Girlracer” “Simulate Me”and “Eden on Acid”. The bands sound has ushered comparisons to The Prodigy, Atari Teenage Riot and Ho99o9 while the band themselves quote Gary Numan, Aphex Twin and Rammstein as influences.
